Minimum Starting Salary: $14.50 per hour / 7.5 hour work day

Summary:
This person will be responsible for preparing food and beverages for 3 meals/day for the children of the child care center. Most food is pre-cooked and heat and serve. There are a few items that require preparation such as baking muffines, etc. Meals are served on a schedule and meal service must be in compliance with federal food guidelines. This person will be required to get Food Service Manager certification within the first 6 months of the job.
Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Heat and prepare convenience foods in accordance with the current menu.
  • Maintains SCPH codes by cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment, dishes, appliance, floors, and countertops after each use and at the end of the day.
  • Creates monthly menu and weekly shopping order needed for meal services. Works cooperatively with the DIrector, and others in an effort to maintain good working relationships. Unloads and stocks new food packages and monitors the condition of food for compliance of safe food handling (requires the ability to bend, reach and stoop).
  • Serve and deliver meals to each classroom, following the DCFS, CACFP and DPH standards in regards to quanity and safety. This includes carrying a tray or pushing a cart within and outside of our building, with weights estimated to be between 24-40 lbs). Empties each classroom trash can and takes the garbage to the dumpster after each meal.
  • Works cooperatively with classroom staff and families to determine accurate meal counts and to determine and follow food restrictions of children with allergies.
  • Maintains an awareness of pertinent industry information by completing continuing education hours annually. Must meet all general requirements for personnel as stated in DCFS Section 407.100. Assists in the classroom with children as needed. : 10%
  • Performs other duties as assigned (including, but not limited to helping with laundry, assisting with cleaning and sanitizing of toys, assisting at the front desk if needed, and greeting children and families.

Minimum Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Six (6) months of work experience in food preparation in a commercial setting.
3. As required by the position to be filled, possession of the Illinois Department of Public Health, Food Handler Training Certification (from an American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited trainer).

Ability to bend and/or squat to lift boxes, cans or other items.
Ability to push and/or pull the food cart to classrooms.
Ability to reach/stoop in order to put away inventory items and wash dishes.
Ability to work in an environment that is often loud, busy and constantly changing.
