Job Summary:

The Assistant Director for International Recruitment (ADIR) is accountable for meeting established headcount, FTE, and tuition-revenue goals for a tuition-driven institution by working to manage the entire enrollment cycle in alignment with accountabilities and conversion benchmarks. The ADIR demonstrates a sustained commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and works to ensure compliance with UIS, UI System, state, and federal policies, and prescribed professional guidelines.
The ADIR develops strategies for international recruitment territories by analyzing and interpreting student enrollment trends, market data, and best practices in admissions and recruitment marketing, in order to meet enrollment goals; coordinates in-office recruitment activities and events such as webinars, online live events, one-on-one virtual sessions, and hosting of special international groups; develops and cultivates relationships with prospective and admitted students and their families through personal contact, email, online meetings, social media, and other platforms; identifies modifications for admission policies, procedures, and systems relating to international students; and works with the international admissions team on development of international presentations and other promotional pieces.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Communication: Develops and cultivates relationships with prospective and admitted students and their families through personal contact, email, online meetings, social media and other platforms to educate them about UIS, assists with the application process, and provides personalized support; and evaluates opportunities to utilize current and former students, including working with the International Student Services (ISS), in outreach and yield activities.
  • Works with the admissions team on development of the international presentations and other promotional pieces; contributes to enhancing UIS’s presence on social media, on both national and international platforms; assists in building content for e-communication sent to prospective students and international partners; and helps research and identify new and innovative ways to communicate and connect with students.
  • Hones presentation and storytelling skills, adheres to standards that give each prospective student optimal customer service in every interaction, from awareness through the drop-add date.
  • Partner Management: Provides management of current Agent Partners contracted by UIS for the purpose of International Recruitment and will serve as the primary ‘point of contact’ for UIS; strategic evaluation and selection of prospective agent partners in consultation with leadership; evaluates and explores potential partnerships with educational agents and works to strengthen relationships with current agent partners; researching, enforcing contracts, vetting, on-boarding, and regular communication with Agent Partners is expected. Partners with internal and external entities to coordinate and implement recruitment strategies. Manages billing process for agents, creation of all training materials for international partners.
  • Recruitment and Strategic Planning: Develops strategies for international recruitment territories by analyzing and interpreting student enrollment trends, market data, and best practices in admissions and recruitment marketing, in order to meet enrollment goals; coordinates logistics for independent, small group and group travel visits to overseas high schools, sponsoring agencies, partner universities, Education USA offices and advising agencies overseas; represents the University at visits and educational fairs; coordinates communication with prospective students and overseas partners pre- and post-recruitment trips; cultivates relationships with international institutions, educational and government agencies, embassies, and individuals influencing the choices of prospective students; planning and implementation of in-office recruitment activities and events such as webinars, online live events, one-on-one virtual sessions, and hosting of special international groups; utilizes virtual events and activities to reach markets when appropriate and available.
  • Identifies modifications for admission policies, procedures, and systems relating to international students; collects internal and external evidence, analyzing effectiveness of outreach programs and reports key drivers, trends, and insights regarding enrollment; and provides enrollment reports on a monthly basis in relation to prospects and prospective student efforts. Manages budget for international initiatives and reports on ROI.
  • Collaboration: Identifies other UIS offices, activities, and academic efforts that can support and expand outreach efforts; serves as a resource in regards to international admission and recruitment to other departments; represents unit at activities, events, committees and conferences; assists in formulating new and innovative yield activities; keeps up on and provides detailed information about freshman, transfer, and graduate admission policies, academic programs, housing, student life and visa requirements to prospective international students and overseas partners; and seeks opportunities to enhance professional knowledge, skills, and abilities. Collaborates with Marketing for marketing collateral applicable for international audiences. Maintain membership in professional organizations and serve on advisory committees as available.
  • Graduate Assistant Supervision: Recruit, hire, and train graduate assistant for International Recruitment. Provide ongoing coaching and evaluation; and required feedback to GA office.
  • Application review.
  • Other duties & Staff support: Other related duties as assigned, including membership on various committees. As needed, this position may be required to step in and perform the duties and responsibilities of additional staff.
    Participates in efforts to hire and support staff and commits to growing as an Enrollment Management professional. Help leadership focus on new staff welcome, orientation, and onboarding. Works to stay current with university activities, and the accomplishments of alumni, faculty, students, and staff, as well as local, regional, national, and global issues that impact EM.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Excellent written, oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively;
  • Willingness to work hours other than standard business hours, including holidays and weekends and perform recruitment travel as required;
  • Comfort and ease with admission counseling via significant phone and email use
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree of experience working with international student populations
  • Experience supervision international Agent Partners
  • Experience living abroad, intercultural communication skills, and proficiency in a second language
  • Familiarity with:
o A range of common enrollment management information technology (e.g. internet research, MS Office, social media, website content management, ERP/CRM databases, data presentation tools like Tableau/Power BI, and e- apps and forms)
o International articulation agreements
o Technolutions (Slate) and Banner
o Staff supervision
o College/university admissions
