Other Conditions: 

For placement in lecturer applicant pool for Spring 2023. Positions are part-time, temporary, non-tenure, and contingent upon course offerings, sufficient student enrollment, position clearance, and availability of funds. May be for day, evening, or weekend offerings, on- and off-campus (e.g., clinical settings).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teach assigned courses in the discipline.
  2. Maintain minimum of one office hour per week for each course taught.
  3. Prepare course syllabus and reports related to teaching and student progress
  4. Work under supervision of discipline coordinator/division chairperson in integrating teaching efforts with other instructors in the discipline area.
  5. May include instructional assignments involving distance education.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Functionally native oral and written fluency in Japanese, the ability to communicate in English, and one of the following: (a) Master's in Japanese (language or literature); OR (b) Master's in Japanese as a Second Language; OR (c) Master's in the study of the culture or history of the people who speak Japanese; OR (d) Master's in Linguistics, ESL, Education or another language. At least 12 credits of advanced coursework in second language methodology, Japanese literature, Japanese culture, or any combination thereof.
  2. All minimum qualifications must be from a regionally accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, those not meeting the minimum qualifications may be considered on an exception basis.

Desirable Qualifications 

  1. Teaching experience at a community college level.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work with adult learners and communicate clearly.
  3. Familiarity with competency-based instruction and behavioral objectives.
