Other Conditions: Extramural funds. Appointment to begin approximately February 2024 or soon thereafter. Renewal contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of funds, and project needs.
 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • *Conduct foundational family engagement training, professional development, technical assistance, and other outreach/educational activities for PreK to grade 12 educators, families, and professionals of various community organizations invested in family, school, and community engagement.
  • *Deliver high quality, culturally appropriate, strengths-based, and responsive training (in person and online) for educators and parents of children (birth to grade 12), and community members with diverse learning styles.
  • *Develop, design and produce multimedia learning resources on best practices in family, school, and community engagement to support student success, school improvement, and family wellbeing.
  • *Collect and analyze effective family-school partnership examples that showcase promising family engagement practices in project-supported Hawai`i schools.
  • *Collect data on the current status and needs of educators and parents. Develop parent workshops and additional materials based on identified educator, parent, and project needs.
  • Adapt existing project resources for families from Pacific Island cultural backgrounds.
  • *Recruit school/community organization sites and participants at different locations throughout the state.
  • Occasionally work evenings and weekends, and travel independently to various locations throughout the state of Hawaii for events, trainings and meetings as needed, which includes pack and transport of project materials and/or set-up/breakdown of events (move chairs/tables, handling project materials, etc.).
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in education, social science, or public health from a college or university and 3 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for working with PreK-12 students and their families in an educational or community setting; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of developing and implementing educational outreach programs as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with family, school, and community engagement.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
  8. If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  9. Previous experience in developing and conducting trainings or activities for educators, parents, and other family-facing professionals both in-person and via remote (e.g., Zoom).
  10. Ability to travel independently to various geographical site/school locations in a timely manner.
Desirable Qualifications:
  1. Master's degree in education, social science, or public health from a college or university.
  2. Family, school, and community engagement credentials.
  3. Extensive knowledge of Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander or Filipino culture, values and language.
  4.  Previous experience in curriculum development and/or in using education technology platforms and tools (e.g., Laulima or Canvas).
