Duties and Responsibilities
1. *Coordinates SOEST undergraduate recruitment and retention activities. Develops and maintains a calendar of recruitment events. Follows up with students who have been recruited.
2. *Coordinates and conducts informational presentations island-wide to potential applicants, parents, school staff, and the general public regarding SOEST academic programs; possible evening, weekend, and/or off-campus assignments should be anticipated to accommodate potential student needs.
3. *Assists in the development and maintenance of materials and resources through written communication and/or social media platforms to undergraduate students and alumni.
4. *Assists in representing the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology to establish and maintain an effective network of geoscience professionals in Hawai`i, including academic, government, and industry sectors.
5. *Reviews, makes recommendations and modifies the design and delivery of SOEST educational web pages to ensure that the content is current, relevant, and appropriate for students and prospective students.
6. *Assists with coordinating a wide range of student workshops and community-building events, such as the Welcome Orientation, Graduation Reception, SOEST Open House, and other activities as planned.
7. *Supports SOEST students by assessing student interests, career goals, and qualifications with regard to professional development needs and internship opportunities.
8. *Provides ongoing support to projects and/or activities assigned to the SOEST Student Service Office.
9. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Education, Counseling, Social Sciences, Natural Sciences or related field and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for advising, student services, student affairs or related; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
2. Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in student services in higher education or related, demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts, terminology.
3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with student services, academic affairs, and advising in higher education.
4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of student services, academic affairs, and advising roles in higher education.
5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word processing software.
8. Demonstrated record of managing work priorities and completing projects on time.
9. Ability to work outside normally scheduled work hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as directed.
10. Ability to travel independently to various geographical locations in a timely manner. Requirement may be fulfilled by a valid Hawaii Driver's license (class 3), comparable driver's license, or other means of transportation, which meets position needs.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Professional work experience in an academic/university environment.
2. Knowledge of Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
3. Knowledge of policies and procedures of higher education.
4. Experience with undergraduate recruitment and retention.
5. Experience in coordinating college-level events, i.e., workshops, with undergraduate students.
6. Experience working directly with diverse populations of students.
7. Knowledge of the principles of marketing and of the methods, materials, and techniques used in marketing and promotion as it relates to student recruitment typical of an institution of higher education.
8. Experience with developing and implementing a mentoring program.
9. Familiarity with the local geoscience community and SOEST.
10. Established working relationships with the geoscience community and alumni for placement and internship opportunities.
