University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Hotel is Hiring a Summer Academy Resident Assistant Near Athens, GA

Summer Academy at the University of Georgia supports middle and high school students’ development by creating an immersive UGA experience through our academic camps. We host approximately 90-120 students per week in our residential program. Residents Assistants are responsible for living on campus in provided housing, supervising students before and after regular class hours, facilitating evening activities, and managing the move-in and move-out process for each camper. The position calls for a person with a high degree of maturity, flexibility, and effective communication skills. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with youth, conducting program activities and field trips, enforcing policies, communicating with parents/guardians, and dealing with camper problems/issues.

Essential Duties

  • Supervise and engage with residential campers in planned evening activities, meals, and field trips
  • Hold daily meetings with campers to discuss schedule and lead team building/leadership-focused activities
  • Transport campers via van shuttling, chaperoning on UGA bus, and/or walking
  • Assist residential campers with move-in and move-out
  • Execute emergency operations procedures in situations of conflict or emergency
  • Participate meaningfully in weekly staff meetings/debriefs

Primary Tasks

  • Actively supervise and engage with residential campers during breakfast, evening activities, dinner, and transition periods
  • Lead “group session” daily after class with assigned campers: Inquire about their day, address any concerns or questions, and communicate evening schedule and other relevant information
  • Be available in dorm room during (1) scheduled down time for campers and (2) from after evening activities to before breakfast to respond to any concerns, conflicts, or emergencies
  • Responsible for transportation of campers (1) from dorms to breakfast, (2) from dorms to dinner, (3) from dinner to evening activity, and (4) from evening activity back to dorms. Most transportation will be via walking as weather permits
  • Openly communicate with Resident Supervisors and Resident Coordinator regarding campers, schedule of activities, and questions or concerns
  • Help campers and parents/guardians with moving into and out of the dorms
  • Actively participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Collect and place signage around campus for pick-up and drop-off locations
  • Take photos of evening activities and residential programming
  • Check residential rooms before move-in and after check-out for cleanliness
  • Assist with picking up, cleaning, and returning UGA vehicles
  • Respond to issues and concerns related to first aid and/or health
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings

  • Employ positive communication and exceptional customer service skills through interactions with campers, parents/guardians, staff, and instructors
  • Implement proactive problem-solving skills to resolve issues that may arise
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and execute Summer Academy policies, procedures, and Codes of Conduct

Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

Pay: $13.25 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 35 per week
