University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Hotel is Hiring a Summer Academy Camp Coordinator Near Athens, GA

Position Summary

The Summer Camp Coordinator plays a crucial role in the smooth operation and success of the summer camp program. They work closely with the Camp Director to ensure the safety, well-being, and enjoyment of all campers and staff. This role involves overseeing various aspects of camp activities, administration, and logistics, contributing to creating a positive and enriching experience for everyone involved.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day operation of the Summer Academy at UGA program
  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising camp staff, ensuring they understand and adhere to camp policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
  • Supervise campers during daily activities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and engagement. Address any behavioral issues promptly and appropriately.
  • Assist with administrative duties such as registration, camper paperwork, scheduling, and record-keeping.
  • Communicate effectively with parents regarding camp activities, policies, and their child's progress and well-being.
  • Address any challenges or concerns that arise during camp operation promptly and effectively, seeking solutions that prioritize the safety and satisfaction of campers and staff.

Primary Tasks

  • Ensure that daily schedules are followed and adjust as needed to accommodate changes or unexpected circumstances.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of various camp activities, including sports, arts and crafts, nature exploration, and special events.
  • Assist in training staff members on camp policies, safety procedures, activity planning, and effective communication with campers and parents.
  • Mediate conflicts among campers and staff members, promoting positive communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Monitor the health and well-being of campers and staff, providing support and assistance as needed.
  • Participate in the evaluation of the camp program, staff performance, and overall effectiveness, providing constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Assist in planning and implementing special projects or initiatives aimed at enhancing the camp program or addressing specific needs or goals.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation related to camp activities, incidents, and other relevant information.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, and industry standards governing summer camps.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge of summer camp operations, including staff management, safety protocols, and administrative processes.
  • Leadership skills to effectively lead and motivate a team of camp staff, delegate tasks, and provide guidance and support.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for interacting with campers, parents, staff, and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of child and youth development principles, with the ability to organize age-appropriate programming and foster a supportive environment.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and address challenges, utilizing critical thinking skills to develop creative solutions.
  • Exceptional organizational skills for managing multiple tasks, prioritizing responsibilities, and maintaining accurate records and documentation.
  • Proficiency in safety and risk management practices, including emergency procedures, first aid/CPR certification (preferred), and ensuring a safe camp environment.
  • Interpersonal skills to build positive relationships with campers, staff, parents, and community members, demonstrating empathy, patience, and cultural competence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Previous camp or teaching experience

The Summer Camp Coordinator will ideally begin working with Summer Academy part-time in mid-May. Full time work begins May 28 and conclude July 23.

Job Types: Full-time, Temporary

Pay: $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
