At UConn Health, this class is accountable for coordination of training and teaching activities, the supervision of the non-dispensing aspects of the Pharmacy Service, as well as providing pharmacy services to patients including medication therapy management.
THIS IS A TEMPORARY POSITION LESS THAN SIX MONTHS WITH NO STATE PAID BENEFITS. THE ANTICIPATED START DATE IS MAY 3, 2024.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED:
Works under the limited supervision of an employee of higher grade.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED:
May lead/supervise lower level employees, students and others as assigned.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Supervises, develops, coordinates, and implements clinical learning experiences of introductory and advanced practice pharmacy students; supervises the non-dispensing aspects of the pharmacy service
Supports activities of drug information; disseminates pertinent drug information and it applicability in practice to staff
Evaluates new reference resources; answers the most complex drug information inquiries from staff and other health professionals Provides clinical leadership and direction to assess and determine appropriate pharmacy services related changes required to ensure optimal delivery care model
Reviews literature and prepares monographs on drugs proposed for formulary additions
Identifies and maintains policies and procedures surrounding formulary and clinical activities
Works to evaluate, assess, and determine clinical program responses and ad hoc operational logistics
Manages clinical alternatives to mitigate drug shortages; serves as active participant on pertinent committee meetings
Coordinates pharmacy department seminars/continuing education courses and on-going training
Develops and plans drug utilization evaluation program
Acts as preceptor for pharmacy residents
Provides pharmacy services as needed
Performs related duties as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of pharmacy and pharmacology and their application to the operation of hospital pharmacy, long-term care pharmacy, home-infusion pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, and outpatient clinics; knowledge of pharmaceutical waste management; knowledge of relevant Federal and State laws and regulations, including USP 797 and USP 800; considerable
interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills; ability to work with technical automated equipment and information systems; ability to precept students; ability to maintain records; teaching ability.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
General Experience:
Pharm D, master's, or bachelor's degree in pharmacy from an accredited Pharmacy program
Incumbents in this class must possess and maintain a license as a Registered Pharmacist in the State of Connecticut
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two (2) years clinical ambulatory/specialty experience
Certification by the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BCPS)
Certification by the Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy (CGP)
A credential in disease state management from the National Institute for Standards in Pharmacist Credentialing
Completion of a disease state management certification program approved by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)
Pharmacy residency accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists Two or more years of MTM experience
WORKING CONDITIONS:
May be exposed to hazardous materials, infectious/communicable diseases, and some disagreeable
conditions.
SCHEDULE: Full time, 40 hours per week, primarily days with flexibility required to work between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm, evening, weekend and holiday coverage as assigned, 30 minute unpaid meal break.
HOURLY RATE: $60.00
