UConn Health is searching for a Nurse Educator/Nursing Professional Development Specialist (job title Clinical Nurse Specialist) to join our patient-focused team. This highly desirable day shift position is located in John Dempsey Hospital (Farmington, CT).

 

This role functions in a centralized capacity, supporting professional nursing practice through education, orientation/onboarding, collaboration, competency management, role development, and evidence-based practice. It includes designing, planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating designated centralized education programs, in order to assist in achieving the nursing department’s goals.

SCHEDULE: 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday with hours predominantly 8am-4:30pm, 30 minute unpaid meal break.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

Considerable knowledge of current clinical literature

Research in practice and therapeutic nursing interventions

Considerable knowledge of the principles/theories of adult learning

Knowledge of unit based orientation plans

Skill in the process of educational needs assessment

Skill in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating of educational programs to meet the needs of the nursing department

Considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communication skills

Ability to provide therapeutic interactions with patients/clients

Ability to evaluate patient care plans

Ability to incorporate research findings into standards of care

Teaching ability

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Using adult education principles, assesses the general clinical education needs.

Provides the most relevant education and defines an implementation strategy that supports a variety of learning styles and identified learning needs.

Assists staff to acquire competencies required to fulfill their role expectations and monitors and tracks staff competencies as appropriate

Plans and coordinates annual staff competency offerings

Develops/maintains records and reports

Assists in preparation for regulatory site visits including TJC, Department of Public Health etc.

Teaches content appropriate to areas of expertise.

Participates in research and/or performance improvement initiatives.

Participates in and guides the development and revision of institutional policies, protocols procedures and standards of care based on evidence based practice.

Participates in departmental and shared governance committees/boards as appropriate.

Serves as an educational resource and consultant for orienteer, preceptor and management staff regarding the orientation process.

In-services and continuing education

Coordinates, implements, evaluates and documents outcomes of educational activities and programs

Participates in the coaching process, mentors other registered nurses and colleagues, and fosters an attitude of lifelong learning

Performs related duties as required.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Incumbents must possess and maintain during employment an RN license to practice nursing in the State of Connecticut.

Registered Nurse with a Master's degree in Nursing or Education and a minimum of two (2) years of experience in an acute care environment with at least one (1) year in education.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Nursing Professional Development Certification or clinical certifications. If not certified at the time of hire, is required to become certified within one year of employment.

BLS Certification

 FULL TIME EQUIVALENT SALARY MINIMUM: $95,202.00
