Emergency Medicine Assistant Professor/Clinical
To provide administrative support and leadership in the UConn Heath Emergency Department. Work closely with the Chair of Emergency Medicine and Medical Director to support providers and processes in the ED. This individual will also work as an ED physician in the UConn Health Emergency Department.
Clinical responsibilities:
Will involve clinical care of patients in the John Dempsey Hospital Emergency Department as assigned by your clinical chief. Shifts at the JDH emergency department will have a balance of days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Administrative Responsibilities:
0.25 FTE will be dedicated to administrative duties for the Emergency Department including the following tasks:
Grievance Response and Committee Attendance
Develop or improve processes with a focus on patient satisfaction
Representative for Stoke Program from Emergency Department physician team
Explore Observation billing status for ED extended stay patients and work with hospital on establishing ED observation as a process.
Work with Epic to develop tools, processes, and order sets to improve clinical efficiencies.
Work with the Chair of EM and Medical Director to review cases for quality and perform apparent cause analyses to improve systems.
Work with ED Medical Director to assess ED flow and operations and implement processes to maximize patient safety and care during times of crowding/boarding.
Support other ED administrative needs as the department requires
Educational responsibilities:
(0.02 FTE) UME with the specific role to be decided based on individual areas of interest and needs of the medical school.
Requirements:
At least 5 years of ED leadership and EM clinical experience
Board Certified ABEM
Record of clinical excellence in Emergency Medicine
Experience in academic emergency medicine
Strong interest in education, with experience working with medical students, residents, and fellows.
Residency trained in Emergency Medicine.
Skilled in adult and pediatric cardio-respiratory resuscitation, emergency airway techniques, resuscitation, and evaluation of all patient types.
Committed to high patient satisfaction.
Excellent bedside clinical educator.
CT MD License.
Interpersonal skills, work ethic and team player.
Fellowship training preferred.
Research experience preferred
