Job Description

Join a world-class academic healthcare system, UChicago Medicine, as the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer (SVP, CIO) for the health system.

We are seeking a visionary IT leader who is ambitious and creative to support our goals of becoming a global leader in academic medicine. UChicago Medicine has energy around innovation and the new Senior Vice President, Chief Information Officer will be part of the team leading a transformative change in the way we do things. We seek a dynamic change-agent who can see across clinical care, research, and education, and move that integration forward ambitiously and seamlessly.

As the Senor Vice President and Chief Information Officer, you will lead the development of the UCM IT Strategic plan. You will also facilitate IT Governance to align the IT Plan and operational needs of the organization with technology investments. The CIO will guide the selection, development, and implementation of systems designed to effectively manage medical information, operations and meet the needs of staff.

Who you are:

An innovative and strategic IT leader with a passion for digital transformation and:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university, Masters preferred.
  • Ten plus years’ experience in an IT leadership role, preferably in an Academic Health Care setting.
  • Five plus years’ experience as a CIO or equivalent in a US Health Care system using EPIC Electronic Health Record.
  • Strategic thinking to anticipate future IT needs and challenges within the organization and develop long-term IT roadmaps.
  • Experience in overseeing the Chief Information Security Officer role and cybersecurity functions.
  • Demonstrated experience advancing the IT Maturity Model strongly preferred.
  • Deep experience of leadership in digital health transformation.
  • Sound knowledge of Information Technology, with skills of Business Acumen, Strategic Planning, and Organizational Assessment.
  • Highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills and quantitative analytic abilities.
  • Exceptional leadership skills to inspire and motivate IT teams, collaborate with executives, and drive organizational change.
  • Excellent skills in team building, including onboarding, training, and developing high-performing IT teams.
  • Proficiency in vendor management, contract negotiation, and evaluation of vendor products and services.
  • Business acumen to manage the IT budget effectively and lead cost-effective decision making, particularly in the setting of resource constraints.

What you’ll do as the Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer:

  • Lead a team of highly skilled IT leaders including our Deputy Chief Information Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Information and Security Officer, Chief Architect, and more.
  • Develop IT Strategic plan and multi-year IT Roadmap.
  • Build upon the existing IT Governance to improve data integration, IT deliverables, and ensure cohesion across the University of Chicago system.
  • Determine long range systems needs and hardware and software acquisition necessary to support the mission and goals of UChicago Medicine.
  • Appropriately staff for all areas of accountability, build and lead a high-performance team to execute IT plans, provide guidance for all budget related activities and ensures adherence to budgets, and implement effective controls around IT operations and security.
  • Provide administrative leadership to all Information System planning and functions, including all phases of systems design, programming, installation, and operations.
  • Work collaboratively with our Chief Medical Officer, Chief Marketing Officer, and other C-Suite executives to develop and strengthen our digital transformation strategy and future organizational growth through upgraded and innovative technologies.
  • Evaluate cutting edge technologies such as AI and machine learning and determine how they can be incorporated into our healthcare delivery model to enhance the capabilities of our clinicians and improve the health outcomes of our patients.
  • Ensure performance improvement functions are developed, evaluated, maintained, and integrated throughout area of responsibility.
  • Sound fiscal management of assigned capital and operating budgets.
  • Develop and maintain lines of communication in support of appropriate relationships between all key stakeholders including those at the University of Chicago, Biological Sciences Division, and UChicago Medicine AdventHealth.
  • Foster efforts to positively impact the organization's visibility, image, and relationship with its surrounding community.

    Must comply with UCMC’s COVID-19 Vaccination requirement as a condition of employment. If you have already received the vaccination, you must provide proof as part of the pre-employment process.
