Position overview
Position title: Postdoctoral scholar
Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. Minimum annual salary rates are made based on the individuals Experience Level, which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution. See current salary scale for Postdoctoral Titles.
Percent time: Full-time (100%)
Anticipated start: As soon as May 1, 2023, but if the selected candidate requires, the start date can be as last as August 1, 2023.
Position duration: Maximum Duration of Service in a Postdoctoral Title: Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time; the initial appointment is for a minimum of one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Reappointment will be contingent upon positive performance review and availability of funding. The total duration of an individuals postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Under limited circumstances, an exception to this limit may be considered, not to exceed a sixth year.

Position Description
The Diversity in Development Laboratory (PI: Hyesung Grace Hwang) in the Psychology Department at the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for the position of postdoctoral scholar.
The Diversity in Development Lab investigates socio-cognitive development starting from infancy to early childhood. We examine these processes in racially, linguistically, and culturally diverse populations and use a variety of interdisciplinary methods across psychology, neuroscience (e.g., EEG), and physiology. The postdoctoral scholar will work on a NIH R00 project investigating the neural correlates behind the development of social bias in infants and young children. The project will involve EEG data collection and analysis as well as behavioral studies.
The position's responsibilities include study design/development, data collection, data analysis, writing manuscripts, and conference presentations. The postdoctoral scholar will also have opportunity to collaborate with Nathan Fox at the University of Maryland. There are also opportunities for the development of novel research directions related to the primary NIH R00 studies and opportunities to write mentored grant proposals.
The ideal candidate will have experience with EEG data acquisition and analyses. Applicants with the following any of the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply: experience using EEG methods with infants and/or children; expertise in programming skills (e.g., Matlab, R, and/or Python); experience supervising and coordinating research assistants; and/or strong project management skills.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Doctoral degree (or equivalent foreign degree) in psychology or a related field. Ph.D. must be in hand at the time of the initial appointment.
  • Experience using EEG methods.
  • Experience in programming language, such as MatLab and R.
  • Experience supervising research assistants and/or project management skills.
