This position works remotely requiring a telecommuting agreement and adherence to the UCSC Telecommuting/Remote Work Guidelines. The employee shall be available in a full-time capacity during assigned telecommuting work hours (specific hours to be discussed with supervisor). While telecommuting/remote working, the employee is responsible for ensuring a worksite environment suitable for accomplishing their regular job duties during scheduled hours of work and, if applicable, arranging for dependent care just as they would if they were working at the regular UCSC worksite.

UC Scout's mission is to provide high-quality A-G and AP curricula and courses for students in need, with an emphasis on advancing the academic success of California's educationally underserved students. We strive to be California's leading resource for online high school content that closes the opportunity gap for educationally disadvantaged students.
UC Scout's Instructional Design department is responsible for the development and support of online courses, as well as oversight of the online learning environment and its users. The Instructional Designer will work collaboratively to design, deliver and maintain high-quality online courses to support teachers in online learning and instructional effectiveness.

JOB SUMMARYUses instructional design and multimedia development skills and best practices to help shape curricular content into coherent instructional modules that employ multimedia and a variety of interactive, web-based tools aimed at supporting learner engagement and knowledge acquisition. Demonstrates a high degree of collaboration, flexibility, and diplomacy as well as proficient project management and creative problem-solving. Solves common content or delivery-related issues in conjunction with technical teams. Occasionally interacts with senior internal and external personnel. Normally receives general supervision for ongoing course development assignments and works most closely with the Instructional Design team, full-time teachers, and subject matter experts.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATIONBudgeted Salary: $32.28 - $37.36 / Hourly. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.

JOB DUTIES45% - Course Design & Development- Applies developing instructional design skills to help articulate course design, including: drafting and reviewing learning objectives and outcomes with subject-matter experts, co-designing engaging and equitable learning activities and assessments, content migration and organization, and deploying appropriate technologies and tools to achieve academic goals and improve programs. Works under supervision and receives general instructions for ongoing course development and revision work, with detailed instructions provided on new projects, assignments, and initiatives.
15% - Technology Implementation- Collaborates with senior staff members to determine methods for delivery of course content and effective use of technology that promotes learner engagement and knowledge acquisition in accordance with established procedures and schedules.
10% - Equity and Accessibility- Completes testing, review, and monitoring of content and tools to meet ADA requirements in accordance with defined standards (WCAG 2.1).
10% - LMS Administration- Deploys content on learning management platforms.
10% - LMS User Support- Monitors course progress during instructional term, and provides teacher and student support as needed.
10% - Collaboration- Works in a collaborative manner with team members to prioritize work assignments, conduct analysis, provide project updates, and contribute product/workflow recommendations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- Working knowledge of functional areas (instructional design) and understanding of how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, analytical skills, and ability to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in verbal and interpersonal communication skills, collaboration and negotiation skills.
- Proficient written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backwards design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
- Working knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve the delivery of engaging and media-rich online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- Master's degree including substantial coursework and research in the fields of instructional design, curriculum development, or learning technologies.
- Teaching Credential or other/equivalent experience or training.
- Working knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems (Canvas LMS, Kaltura, GSuite, CidiLabs/DesignPLUS).
- Working knowledge of learning theories and evidence-based practices applicable in K-12/high school settings.
- Working knowledge of copyright law, ADA compliance in electronic environments, and other regulations and guidelines that relate to online course development and distribution.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT- Selected candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment criminal history background check.
- Ability to work long periods of time at a computer with or without accommodation.
- Must be able to work remotely from a home office and be able to fulfill requirements of the UCSC telecommuting agreement.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as directed.
