DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Mission of UCSC Career Success is to prepare students for what they want to do with their lives by developing relevant career skills. Career Success envisions that Banana Slugs change the world, wherever they are, however they can. Career Success works to support undergraduate and graduate students, as well as UCSC alumni. Career Success offers career coaching, holds career fairs and works with on-campus and off-campus partners and employers to set up recruitment events, on-campus info sessions, workshops, and more. The Career Success office also connects students with experiential learning opportunities. Additionally, Career Success manages hiring for on-campus positions and supervises the onboarding process for all new student hires.
The Student Success and Equity (SSE) portfolio of departments is a branch of the Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) focused on academic support services, advising/counseling, student life/co-curricular programming, student identity development and retention/student success initiatives. Student Success and Equity provides services to the campus community with over 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students and has over 64 career employees and 475 student staff employees operating in 8 facilities/locations. The Student Success and Equity area includes a wide array of multi-disciplinary academic and non-academic units including: Disability Resource Center (DRC), Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP), Learning Support Services, Services for Transfer and Re-entry Students (STARS), Renaissance Scholars Program (including Foster Youth), Veteran Resource Center, African American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), American Indian Resource Center (AIRC), Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center (AA/PIRC), Chicano/Latino Resource Center (El Centro), Women's Center (WC), the Lionel Cantu Queer Center (LGBTQ ), Undocumented Student Services (USS), the UCSC Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives (HSI), African Black and Caribbean Student Success, Career Success, and campus committees/programs, and the Administrative and Business team for the unit. The Student Success and Equity area includes all of the units and over 125 state, federal, student service fees and gift fund sources and an annual operating budget of nearly $18 million dollars.
The UC Santa Cruz Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS), led by the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Success, consists of nearly 250 team members spanning 3 major units and 21 departments. DSAS provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student success programs, activities, and initiatives. DSAS does work through a range of resource centers dedicated to providing direct student support. The division's work is grounded in educational equity, institutional responsibility, and an unfettered commitment to supporting the whole student. DSAS aspires to ensure every student feels welcome, supported, and a sense of belonging during their time on campus. JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of Experiential Learning & Student Employment, the Internship Coordinator utilizes a theoretical understanding of equity innovation, student success, and career development to advise and guide students toward internship opportunities. The internship coordinator works closely with the HSI team to ensure meeting grant deliverables and reprioritizing activities based on those deliverables. The Internship Coordinator oversees the GANAS Career Internship program, as well as other grant-funded or foundation-sponsored internships like the UndocuCareer Development Opportunity Fund. The internship coordinator provides a holistic approach to coordination of internship cultivation and oversight, with a focus on equity and inclusion. The Internship Coordinator performs independently, but may receive guidance in developing new career coaching services and programs.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $65,000 - $73,300 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience.
Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to post a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role. The salary shown above is the budgeted amount the University reasonably expects to pay and the salary extended should not exceed this posted amount.

JOB DUTIES
60% - GANAS Career Internship Program

• In close coordination with the HSI GANAS Career Pathways team, supports historically marginalized students in finding experiential learning opportunities for the GANAS Career Internship Program. This involves providing individual and group coaching, workshops, and programming designed to support students in building application materials, developing internship search strategies, and effective interviewing techniques.
• Develops and implements marketing and outreach programs to promote programs and services.
• Works with the HSI GANAS Career Pathways team on grant reporting.
• Facilitates career readiness modules completion for the GANAS Career Interns, developing culturally relevant and impactful online modules to aid students in meaning making, professional development, and reflection on their experiential learning opportunity.
• Creates and modifies module content based on student feedback.
• Reviews and grades all GANAS student assignments.
• Supervises a GANAS Career intern to support the goals of the GANAS Career Internship Program, providing support and community building for the cohort of students.

35% - Experiential Learning Support

• Cultivates and maintains campus relationships that lead to internship opportunities for students by convening, leading, and curating campus wide conversations about experiential learning opportunities, with a particular focus on the GANAS Career Internship program and Career Development Opportunity Fund, and other programs focused on historically marginalized students as needed.
• Provides individual and group coaching for students interested in experiential learning.
• Develops and facilitates innovative workshops.
• Oversees, develops, and advertises the experiential learning resources available through digital platforms.
• Collaborates with other departments and student services to effectively market experiential learning through outreach programming.
• Conducts outreach to current and prospective students and other stakeholders to promote benefits of experiential learning.
• Counsels undergraduate and graduate students and alumni on internship options and opportunities, including customized services for specific populations.
• Helps students identify their interests, values, skills, and personalities, and understand how these factors relate to academic and career satisfaction and choices.
• Modifies and conducts workshops and presents programs to meet the needs of students and staff.
• Maintains and enhances relationships with campus organizations to develop potential host resources, and promote external relations with alumni relating to career connections for students.

5% - Additional Duties

• Special projects, committee assignments, and other duties as assigned by the Director and/or the Executive Director.
• Helps with decision making, goal setting, action planning, and identifying internal and external obstacles to obtaining goals.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
• Strong knowledge of experiential learning theories, student success, inclusive excellence, career development theories, career coaching techniques, career decision making, and learning styles.
• Thorough knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice; workshop and program design.
• Knowledge of higher education programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.
• Ability to design and modify computer applications to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
• Excellent interpersonal, cultural competence, and conflict resolution skills.
• Demonstrated experience and achievement providing career advising and/or counseling to students who are first-generation to college, low-income, underrepresented, non-traditional and/or immigrant backgrounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Advanced degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
