University of California San Francisco is Hiring an IACUP Research and Compliance Analyst Near San Francisco, CA

Under the general direction of the Executive Director, the IACUP Research and Compliance Analyst works closely with the IACUC, Office of Ethics and Compliance management, Office of Research management, veterinarians and veterinary staff and is directly supervised by the IACUP Associate Director. The incumbent assures compliance with applicable Federal and state regulations and University policies and procedures by drafting standard operating procedures, guidelines and policies, by conducting protocol audits and by performing site inspections to ensure procedures conform to protocols.. The incumbent is also responsible for some planning, development, implementation and integration on ongoing training.

Department Description

UCSF is an accredited institution with AAALAC International, a voluntary accreditation organization. The Institutional Animal Care and Use Program (IACUP) is responsible for all compliance related activities surrounding the care and use of animals on this campus. The ethical, regulatory, and policy regulations include the USDA Animal Welfare Act and Regulations (AWAR), the PHS Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and the NRC Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, all of which are encompassed in university policy to ensure the highest standards of animal care and use.
UCSF has established an Institutional Animal Care and Use Program whose mission is to provide:
  • Support for the review and approval of animal use protocols
  • Training to the research community and the Laboratory Animal Resource Center
  • Regulatory compliance oversight for the program
  • Coordination of the process for ongoing accreditation with the AAALAC International organization

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience and/ or equivalent experience/training
  • Demonstrated self-discipline and sound, independent judgment completing complex assignments.
  • Thorough knowledge and ability to apply all relevant Federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and federal guidance documents
  • Thorough knowledge and experience with quantitative and qualitative research design; scientific research concepts and terminology
  • Demonstrated proficiency in public speaking. Proficiency in written communication
  • Proficient in the use of common computer programs (Microsoft Office, etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
  • Veterinary technician license
  • AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist
  • Certified Professional of IACUC Administrator
  • Demonstrated prior experience training others in an academic, research or other professional setting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a diverse population to train animal handling techniques and/or implement compliance with applicable regulations
  • Familiarity with the use of workflow management software (e.g. Smartsheet)
  • Familiarity with UCSF’s Research Information Online (RIO) program
  • Experience and ability for hands-on work with common laboratory animals including mice, rats, and larger animals
