Departmental Overview
The College of Environmental Design (CED) operates three academic departments - Architecture, City and Regional Planning, and Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning - conferring both undergraduate and graduate degrees. CED has 55 full-time and 45 part-time teaching faculty, 50 career staff, and over 1,200 students. The operations of the College are financed with state funds, gifts and endowments and other revenue sources.
This position manages the Student Technology Center (STC), which serves approximately 1000 students each semester and 100 faculty and staff year-round; supervises work study students (Computer Resource Assistants); oversees card key access for CED facilities using the campus C
CURE security management system; regulates credit and debit card processing, financial reconciliations, and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliance; assigns first-level, college-wide, IT help desk responses. Analyzes business and technical processes and problems; develops and implements solutions using computer systems, information flow & architecture, and retail business processes. Participates in cross-functional teams to solve business and/or systems issues. Serves as subject matter expert for CED-IIT database system (IITAPP). Defines specifications for business, computer, and sales transaction systems to meet requirements; validates requirements against needs. Contributes to the requirements of automated systems and executes unit integration and acceptance testing.

Responsibilities
20% Assures that the Student Technology Center is in compliance with necessary laws, rules, and policies.
Coordinates with CED units regarding waivers
Adheres to FERPA security requirements regarding student data
Works with UC Berkeley Facilities to coordinate card key access to CED facilities using C
CURE
Responsible for meeting PCI physical and regulatory data security requirements
Assists IIT Manager with required annual audits and reports, mitigates identified concerns, and is one of CED's liaisons with the campus Credit Card Coordinator in the Controller's office.
As part of the IIT team, may be required to investigate and document internal security-related incidents.
15% Applies technical expertise and business analysis concepts to research and fact-finding for solving student and faculty problems presented in the Student Technology Center.
Manages the oversight of first-level support for computers, printers, plotters, scanners, paper cutters and any other technical services provided by the Computer Labs and other computing spaces in CED.
Oversees transaction-based collection of fees for access to optional technical services provided by CED and maintains the paper and electronic forms used to collect transactional data.
The position must resolve student, faculty, or staff IT or business complaints; must interpret existing campus, CED or IIT policies as they affect individual users, and identify patterns to help identify systemic issues that need to be addressed.
Reviews and updates content on the Computing Resources pages of the CED website.
As a member of a technical team, this position participates in technical and business trouble-shooting or problem-solving.
15% Gathers, analyzes, and documents requirements and regulatory or policy-driven reports.
Gathers, analyzes, prepares and summarizes business, financial, and web or knowledgebase documents.
Conducts daily transactional reconciliation for credit card processing and reports to the Finance Department.
Performs chart-string transactional reconciliation for inter-campus and interdepartmental purchases of services.
Assists with the annual student computing budget, monitors expenditures and revenues, and adjusts as directed.
Collects data and generates reports surrounding student usage.
Will have procurement card ("bluCard") authority for emergency purchases to assure instruction is not interrupted, but will conduct majority of purchases via Bear Buy; serves as back-up approver to IIT Manager.
15% Participates in cross-functional collaboration with other CED offices to solve business or systems issues.
Helps resolve student software and hardware questions or issues.
Manages CalNet Active Directory computer accounts.
Manages PaperCut accounts and resolves issues or refunds.
Proposes operating and administrative procedures and improvements.
Considers computer peripheral equipment capacity, limitations, and operating time to respond to faculty use needs.
Identifies problems with computers or peripherals and escalates, as necessary, to other members of the IIT team.
15% Supervises student workers in the Student Technology Center (STC)
Interviews, hires, trains, evaluates, and supervises a team of student assistants.
Assigns help desk ticket work to students based on the abilities and skills that are required for resolution.
Creates and manages student worker schedules.
10% Analyzes business problems to create specifications for systems or business processes designed to meet user and business requirements.
Identifies, evaluates and develops Google-based information gathering processes for student data
Proposes and implements work process changes.
Participates with IIT staff in their efforts on analytics, metrics, and documentation.
Conducts and documents annual Risk Assessment with plans for Student Tech Center.
In conjunction with team, inputs and assists with the annual review and update of CED's Business Continuity Planning documents.
Other analytical tasks may be assigned as required.
10% Working with CED programmer, applies professional concepts to design details of college-wide automated systems.
As Subject Matter Expert (SME) for IITAPP, may provide guidance in basic user interface designs and reports.
Under supervision, works to design and develop the IIT departmental database.
Serves as subject matter expert to develop requirements and conduct acceptance testing.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Requires knowledge of business analysis functions in a campus setting.
Must have knowledge relating to the design of applications programs.
Requires knowledge of other related areas of IT, such as CalNet authentication, Risk Analysis, Business Continuity, web publishing, etc.
Knowledge of or ability to gain knowledge of department processes and procedures.
Requires skills associated with analysis of processes and problems, information flow and architecture.
Requires interpersonal and communications skills in order to work with both technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
Requires extensive knowledge of security requirements, policies, and audits in a campus setting.
Requires customer service and retail sales experience.
Requires experience with managing a small IT service organization within a larger context.
Has project planning skills needed to develop and implement plans.
Has experience with instructional activities and interacting with students and faculty in an educational environment.
Must be able to write analytical documents and analyze data.
Must be able to speak in front of groups and facilitate group meetings.
Must have good negotiation and mediation skills.
Must be able to communicate effectively across the organization at multiple levels both verbally and written.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $33.52 to $36.88 hourly. This is a full time career position eligible for full benefits.
