Departmental Overview
The He lab at UC Berkeley is one of the pioneers in non-coding RNA (ncRNA) biology. The He Lab employs novel approaches in genetics, genomics, cell, and molecular biology to understand the functional importance and the molecular regulation of various non-coding elements, including microRNAs (miRNAs), long ncRNAs, and transposons. The He lab is also well known for its development of novel CRISPR genome editing tools in mammalian genetics. The PI Dr. Lin He received the prestigious MacArthur Fellowship in 2009, Carcinogenesis Young Investigator Award in 2014, and was selected as a Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) Faculty Scholar in 2016, and as a Biohub investigator in 2022.
The He lab is in the MCB department at UC-Berkeley, which encompasses a breadth of disciplines spanning all levels of the organization and encompassing diverse organisms. This division offers a variety of programs that will prepare its postdoctoral fellows for future careers in professional fields such as academia, health sciences, and biotechnology. UC-Berkeley is at a central location in the San Francisco bay area, surrounded by many excellent academic institutions and biotech/pharmaceutical companies. Responsibilities
The He Lab at UC-Berkeley is seeking a creative, accomplished, and highly motivated individual to work with our group of 7 graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. The individual will be expected to fulfill the following research support responsibilities:
Provide research support to understand the molecular mechanisms underlying fundamental questions in development and disease using mouse models and genomics. The tasks include colony management, molecular biology, mouse surgery, and genomics experiments.
Technical training of junior lab members on basic molecular biology, cell biology, genomics, and mouse genetics techniques.
Under general supervision and in collaboration with PI and senior lab members, generation and care of mouse colonies and cultured cell lines.
Maintenance of laboratory inventory, equipment, ordering, biosafety compliance, and administrative duties.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Excellent learning ability, communication skills, and organization skills (keeping track of the schedule, paperwork, sample storage, and inventory), and strong motivation.
General computer skills (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel) for keeping track of results and sharing progress.
Research experience with mouse genetics/molecular biology/cell biology/biochemistry.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with any standard molecular biology techniques: mouse handling/surgery, genome editing, mouse genetics, molecular cloning, PCR; electrophoresis; western blot; microscopy, or cell culture.
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree preferred in Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or Cell Biology and/or equivalent experience/training.
Candidates with a Ph.D. degree can also be considered for a more senior lab manager position.
Salary & Benefits
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), career position that is eligible for full UC benefits. This position is non-exempt and paid bi-weekly. The hourly pay for this role is commensurate with experience.
