The Department of Recreational Sports offers members of the UC Berkeley community an extraordinary experience to live active and meaningful lives while on campus.
Programs and services range from group fitness, aquatics, adventure trips, drop-in fitness and recreation, intramural sports, sport clubs, personal training, WorkFit, and many other activities. Recreational Sports is enhanced by its indoor and outdoor facilities, including three indoor locations, four pools, five tennis courts, and an outdoor adventure center at the Berkeley Marina.

This is a continuoius recruitment with multiple positions available. Applications will be reviewed and hires made throughout the year.
Responsibilities
CUSTOMER SERVICE & SAFETY
Maintain a proper and professional surveillance of the pool and the patrons in and around it.
Maintain a high level of concentration and vigilance.
Provide information, assistance and service to patrons.
Make proper referrals for guests as needed.
Resolve conflicts or confrontations with guests.
Defuse patron confrontations and customer services issues in a professional manner
Enforce safety rules and regulations governing use of swimming areas.
Prevent accidents from occurring.
Provide Immediate First Aid and Emergency Response Care as needed.
OTHER
Review all manuals and informational items (memos, brochures, flyers, etc.) to provide guests with accurate information.
Attend required training courses and staff meetings.
Maintain certifications.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of aquatics / lifeguard activity practices and procedures.
Requires verbal and written communication in the English language, active listening, dynamic flexibility, critical thinking, multi-task and time management skills.
Able to exercise independent sound judgment and employ reasoning skills.
Client service minded, entrepreneurial spirit and creative thinking.
Education/Training
Current American Red Cross certifications includes:
Lifeguard Training & First Aid
CPR: For the Professional Rescuer & AED
Title 22 First Aid (California State Law)
Lifeguard Certification
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of or ability to learn campus policies and procedures.
Salary & Benefits
This position is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position. Hourly pay for this role is $17.82. For information on the comprehensive benefits package offered by the University visit:
