Departmental Overview
The Department of Recreational Sports provides competitive and recreational opportunities for students, faculty, staff and the campus affiliated community members. In addition to the 33 sport clubs, the department offers a wide range of recreational activities and state of the art equipment.

Responsibilities
Assumes full team responsibility for recruitment and performance. Evaluates athletes' performance and designs instructional opportunities to improve technical and strategic execution based on sound motor learning and biomechanical principles. Assesses participants' skills and assigns team or activity positions. Proposes the strategies, goals, and objectives for the Judo team on a short and long-term basis. Plans, conducts, and supervises all practice and conditioning sessions. Coaches team at competitive events nationally and/or internationally, including symposiums. Ensures adherence to all governing rules, policies, and procedures. Represents and promotes professional conduct, university goodwill, and high standards at all events Provides risk management oversight for team operations and implements procedures to ensure the safety of participants. Ensures safety guidelines are adhered to. Proposes purchases for the team.
Required Qualifications
Must have effective interpersonal, motivational, and team leadership and supervision skills to develop and work effectively with sports participants. Must be able to demonstrate creativity, sound judgment, and decision-making, be an effective problem solver, and have effective communication abilities, verbally and in writing. Must have specialized knowledge of Olympic Taekwondo Sparring. Previous experience working with age level specific to an activity.
Licenses/Certification:
Certification to instruct in taekwondo sparring or equivalent experience. Maintains CPR / AED and First Aid certification.
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Training:
Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.00 - $35.00 per hour.
This is a limited (temporary) 1-year, variable position. This position is not eligible for UC benefits.
