Departmental Overview
As one of the preeminent Jewish collections in the world, The Magnes Collection of Jewish Art and Life provides accessible resources to scholars, students, and visitors. Its remarkably diverse archive, library and museum holdings include art, objects, texts, music, and historical documents about Jews in the Global Diaspora including the American West.
The Learning & Engagement Coordinator helps connect audiences of The Magnes Collection to the museum's collections and subject area by developing and implementing programming in the galleries, the auditorium, and occasionally at sites off campus. Responsible for overseeing student workers tasked with welcoming guests and ensures a positive visitor experience through friendly customer service and learning opportunities within the museum. The Coordinator works under general supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with other museum staff in support of the museum's public service functions.

Responsibilities
Under general supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with collections staff, the Learning & Engagement Coordinator designs, develops, and implements collections-based and/or thematically appropriate programming in the galleries, in the auditorium, and off-site. Responsible for creating audience-appropriate gallery programs in conjunction with exhibitions based on curatorial research and themes. Manages run- of-show for events developed by the museum and for events co-hosted by other University units and/or external partners. Works with Executive Director to evaluate Magnes Collection programs. Assists in the assessment of programs and makes recommendations to collections and administration colleagues based on assessments; establishes standard operating procedures for public services. Supervises student workers who staff the front desk and covers front desk shifts when necessary; Makes regular rounds through the museum's public spaces to ensure a clean, safe, and fully functioning environment for visitors. Manages logistics for internal programs and programs presented with university and external partners, including, but not limited to: arranging catering, creating and circulating run-of-show information, coordinating with Marketing and Communications Manager, collecting registrations, setting up before and cleaning up after events, and tracking attendance. Maintains administrative records related to programming.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of museum educational techniques. Working knowledge of and curiosity about Jewish life, culture, and history. Working knowledge of the learning characteristics of museum audiences. Presentation skills and ability to engage diverse audiences in a variety of environments/settings. Strong verbal, interpersonal, presentation and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and use appropriate resources to accomplish assigned tasks/duties. Ability to provide feedback and use mentoring techniques. Bachelor's degree in Jewish studies, museum studies, education, or other related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of emerging educational technologies. Familiarity with/experience implementing culturally responsive pedagogy. Continuing education in related field.
Salary & Benefits
This is a 100% full-time (40 hrs a week) non-exempt career position, which is paid hourly and eligible for full UC Benefits.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The full salary range for this position is $26.05 - $43.97 per hour. The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $26.05 - $28.85 per hour.
