Team Overview
Data Solutions resides within the broader Berkeley IT Campus Applications & Data unit, which ensures that the University's mission-critical applications and data are aligned, designed, integrated, and managed together. Data Solutions consists of Engineering & Integration Services, responsible for data integration and architectural considerations across campus applications, as well as the Data & Analytics team, responsible for campus-wide analytics and reporting. These are exciting areas that will experience growth and the need for innovation as the campus develops the governance, services and culture that support data as a critical campus asset.

Responsibilities
UC Berkeley's Engineering and Integration Services (EIS) seeks a hands-on technical lead with supervisory responsibilities for a team of 6 data architects, developer/engineers, analysts and operations specialists. The team is charged with designing, implementing, and maintaining the APIs and integration infrastructure that allows campus data assets to flow among our major student, finance and HR applications, as well as ancillary consumer applications. EIS currently manages dozens of separate APIs in a custom implementation of AWS's API Gateway controlled by a developer portal written in Ruby on Rails. It provides API development and developer support in Java Spring Boot for most of those, as well as DevSecOps support using GitHub, Jenkins, Nexus, AWS CodeControl, SaltStack, Python, and Unix. Many vital integrations also rely on ActiveMQ messaging. The technical lead collaborates with the team and broader Berkeley IT to define campus cross-system architecture and data integration strategy. The candidate should have solid skills in people management, operations, customer relations, code development/deployment, testing/quality assurance, process discipline, metadata management and documentation.
Required Qualifications
Broad knowledge of key architecture domains (portal, application, data, infrastructure, integration/middleware, and security)
Understanding of core technologies, such as open standards, database, and integration technologies
Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable big data' stores.
Ability to bring order to ambiguous situations; must be able to document issues and requirements, determine root causes, and develop solutions through concrete analysis and insights.
Knowledge of other related areas of IT. Ability to apply department processes and procedures to work.
Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into long-term architecture solutions. Expertise relating to the design and development of software across the organization.
Enterprise-level understanding of and experience with key modeling and description languages used to map highly complex business processes to architectural components, develop common, large-scale data resource architectures, and create reference frameworks.
Significant experience with the integration of highly complex, diverse, internally and externally developed implementations of business functions to build enterprise-class, scalable systems.
Should be knowledgeable about data quality and governance issues and requirements.
Experience with metadata management and tools.

Demonstrated facility with *nix operating systems and command line utilities
Demonstrated experience with object oriented languages (Java with Spring and Python preferred)

Demonstrated experience with a software configuration management platform (SaltStack preferred)
Working knowledge of enterprise integration patterns and their implementation in Apache Camel and ActiveMQ
Working knowledge of version control and CI/CD tools (GitHub and Jenkins preferred)
Experience with AWS cloud services: CloudFront, Virtual Private Cloud, Elastic Load Balancing, Elastic Compute Cloud, API Gateway, ElastiCache/Redis, CodeCommit
Experience with containerization and containerization orchestration
Knowledge of Oracle/PeopleSoft ERPs, especially their common data structures and Integration Broker
Salary & Benefits
