Departmental Overview
Within the Division of Undergraduate Education, Berkeley Connect operates in multiple academic departments across multiple colleges, creating a vertical mentoring community of faculty mentoring graduate students and graduate students mentoring undergraduates. The Associate Director works under the general direction of, and in partnership with, a faculty director of Berkeley Connect.
Job Summary
The Associate Director fo Berkeley Connect works under the direction of, and in partnership with, the Faculty Director of Berkeley Connect to manage all operations of the Berkeley Connect program. As a complex program spanning multiple departments, the Associate Director brings a high degree of knowledge to the program operations, including understanding graduate student fellowship appointments, development and implementation of Berkeley Connect in new departments, developing a communications plan, building initial program budgets and monitoring the budgets, and campus policies and processes.

Responsibilities
Administers all aspects of the operation of the Berkeley Connect fellowship and mentoring program, and manages issues related to Berkeley Connect. Liaises with multiple campus units (including Graduate Division, HR, Labor Relations, Visiting Scholars, IST, Facilities) to ensure program operations are mission-focused, successful, and compliant. Pursues continuous improvement in administrative operations and program quality.
Develops and coordinates program communications and contributes to program fundraising efforts. Responsible for website, social media, blog, videos, electronic newsletter, and print materials. Prepares acknowledgment letters and foundation reports. Serves as the program's point-person for faculty, staff, students, and community members. Represents the program at meetings and events. Supervises work-study Communications Assistant.
Provides analyses for complex budget, funding, financial, and academic data. Monitors budget. Prepares short- and long-range plans and performs analyses regarding future resource allocations.
Collaborates with partners to coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of new programs and processes. Makes high-level contacts requiring discretion and diplomacy, including representing the program to campus executives, deans, department chairs, and directors of campus units. Keeps abreast of relevant developments in the fields of mentoring, student success, and DEIB.
Supports the division of Undergraduate Education in coordinating the Berkeley Scholar's Consortium, of which Berkeley Connect is an important member. Writes agendas, designs and leads collaborative projects to improve student knowledge of and access to programs in the Consortium, advance mentoring, and improve student sense of belonging at UC Berkeley.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge of or the ability to learn/develop a solid understanding of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management.
Advanced interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.
Advanced knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
Knowledge of or the ability to learn common University-specific computer application programs.
Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Advanced skills in short- and long-term strategic planning, analysis, problem-solving and customer service.
Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary outside of the range posted in this job announcement. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $82,400.00 - $116,900.00
