University of Alaska - External Careers is Hiring a Temporary Technician Pool - Institute of Arctic Biology Near Fairbanks, AK

The Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB) is seeking candidates for temporary positions to support the areas of biology, genetics, wildlife, biomedical, ecology, physiology, bioinformatics, and related areas of study to support the research and academic missions of the Institute.

Major research programs at IAB include the Center for Alaska Native Health Research, Alaska Basic Neuroscience Program, Center for Molecular and Genetic Studies of Hibernation, Alaska Geobotany Center, Resilience and Adaptation Program and the Bonanza Creek Long-Term Ecological Research program. The Alaska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit, administered by IAB, began in 1950 and is part of a nationwide cooperative program to promote research and graduate student training in the ecology and management of fish, wildlife and their habitats. And the Institute's Toolik Field Station is a world-renowned Arctic climate change research station located in the northern foothills of the Brooks Range.

Knowledge of what is needed to complete the required tasks is dependent upon what position and department the candidate is hired to support. Experience and knowledge of science practices, procedures, and activities related to areas of biology, genetics, wildlife, biomedical, ecology, physiology, bioinformatics, or related areas (this is dependent upon specific position).

Training in scientific laboratory and/or field site techniques in biology, genetics, wildlife, biomedical, ecology, physiology, bioinformatics, or related areas.
Additional training, such as equipment/instrument training, lab safety training, HazMat handling, shipping, computer software, or other training is dependent upon the requirements of a specific position. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Varies depending on the position. At a minimum, a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Training in scientific laboratory and/or field site techniques in biology, genetics, wildlife, biomedical, ecology, physiology, bioinformatics, or related areas.
Additional training, such as equipment/instrument training, lab safety training, HazMat handling, shipping, computer software, or other training is dependent upon the requirements of a specific position.

May be required to travel to remote locations. Ability to travel, heavy lifting, etc. dependent upon the requirements of specific position.

For some positions, a valid driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving Criteria will be required.

Position Details:

This is a temporary pooled position, which means that the recruitment remains open over the entire academic year and applicants are reviewed on an as-needed basis.

*Compensation is commensurate with experience and type of work assigned* - Temporary Grade 00_72 to 00_84
