The Animal Resources Program (ARP) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is actively seeking qualified candidates for the Animal Laboratory Specialist I position. The Laboratory Animal Specialist I perform all duties essential to properly caring for laboratory animals and specialized colonies within assigned areas. This position will work within the technical team as an Animal Laboratory Specialist I to provide animal care consistent with animal species requirements and established guidelines in the yellow room area. The position will be responsible for the upkeep and general maintenance of equipment or systems to perform physical assessments on animals, recognize signs of illness, and perform other duties as assigned. The position may involve filing and organizing health records for campus-wide health surveillance programs, maintaining detailed records of colonies, and maintaining daily animal and room census records. The position may require reporting to internal and external agencies to ensure adherence to Federal, State, and UAB procedures and requirements.
Hourly Wage Range: $15.50-$25.20
High School diploma or GED and one (1) year of related experience required. Certified at any level by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) preferred.
Note: This position will require TB and drug testing for external candidates
