The University of Notre Dame (ND.jobs) is accepting applications for a Assistant Director, International Travel Safety.
Applications will be accepted until 8/28/2022.
The Assistant Director of International Travel Safety provides analytical and operational support on matters of health and safety overseas, performing duties to strengthen the University's travel risk management program. The Assistant Director works closely with and reports to the director of international travel safety in addition to collaborating with cross campus partners and the global network. The Assistant Director will lead all health and safety initiatives for University study abroad programs, including training and orientations, and risk assessment of new and existing programs, and compliance efforts with campus safety and other campus authorities.
Program Management
  • Leads all health and safety initiatives for university study abroad programs and risk assessment of new and existing program and compliance efforts with campus safety and other campus authorities
  • Supports the continued growth and development of the university's travel risk management program
  • Advises and works closely with director of international travel safety on policy development and protocols
  • Provides subject matter expertise to the university's schools and departments
Risk Assessment
  • Researches and monitors geopolitical issues in support of duty of care
  • Leads analysis of high-risk undergraduate student travel
  • Conducts risk assessments for new and existing study abroad program locations and other locations as required
Crisis Management and Response
  • Works with supervisor on the creation and maintenance of emergency response and business continuity plans for the global network
  • Shares 24/7 on-call responsibilities for emergencies abroad
  • Provides assistance in an international crisis
Training and Compliance
  • Leads education and training efforts for university study abroad program travelers
  • Maintains travel safety online training course
  • Leads compliance efforts for Clery, Title IX, VAWA
This is a hybrid-optional position, up to two days remote per week if desired. Occasional international travel may be required.
Notre Dame International (NDI) is a division of the University of Notre Dame responsible for furthering the University's global strategy through Study Abroad, Global Engagement Programs, and International Student and Scholar Affairs. NDI's 11 Global Gateways and Centers, located in nine countries, provide intellectual hubs for international partnerships, faculty research and student programs. NDI also supports students, faculty, and staff in providing international travel safety training and resources for international travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum of four years of relevant direct experience in any of the following areas: higher education, international travel safety and risk management, or crisis management
  • International travel experience
  • Knowledge of international relations and geopolitical issues
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Customer service oriented
  • Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and provide sound judgement
  • Ability to problem-solve and make quick and effective decisions
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, the Google workspace environment, and the ability and willingness to learn other software systems as needed
  • Willingness to travel internationally
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters or professional degree in a security-related field
  • International experience living, studying, or working abroad
  • Experience in higher education
  • Knowledge of travel safety and security, emergency response, and contingency planning
  • Communication experience in a multicultural environment
  • Fluency in a language other than English
