POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIESAccurately verifies patient materials, processes and prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examination to aid physicians in determining, confirming or prescribing treatment for patients.Demonstrates proficiency and understanding on all aspects pertaining to histological techniques. Utilizes LIS in conjunction with advanced bar code tracking system to record and locate specimens throughout the processing phases.Maintains records and specimen storage.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent and successful completion of an approved structured histology program by a recognized agency.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) as a Histotechnician.
