SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for greeting and checking in patients in a busy medical office, and supporting providers, staff and administrators by performing the following duties:
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Answers busy, multi-line phone, determines purpose of callers, and forwards calls to appropriate personnel or department.
Determines need for escalation of certain calls (Priorities), and pages or calls the appropriate person/persons
Ensures proper insurance referrals are in place in the patient chart at the time of check in, as well as checking patient’s current eligibility on insurance presented
Accepts copays, payments on account and payments for procedures and provides patient with a receipt for their payment
Balances their cash and other payment forms collected, as well as petty cash at the end of each shift. Brings to Front desk supervisor for appropriate sign over of cash collections.
Scans in New patient forms and updates demographics, insurance and other information in the EMR, as directed
Responsible for maintaining a tidy waiting room area, ensuring that all magazines, pamphlets and publications are straightened, distributed and available for the patients.
Other receptionist and secretarial duties, as directed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Medical Receptionist reports directly to the Site Supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or equivalent required. At least one year of experience with similar job functions in a healthcare setting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have previous EHR/EMR experience; Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel and Outlook is preferred.
