As the only independent and physician-led faculty practice plan of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, University Clinical Health (UCH) offers best-in-class clinical care through a network of 175 providers across 19 specialties to meet the healthcare needs of the Mid-South community. UCH is a not-for-profit, non-tax-supported group practice and is here to serve the community while providing medical excellence to our patients.

SUMMARY: 

Supervise and manage clinical staff and the day-to-day clinical operations of Hamilton Eye Institute. Coordinates the efficient flow of patients, staff, and providers in a busy clinic environment. Recommends, develops, and implements initiatives to enhance clinical operations. Acts proactively to troubleshoot problems resolve and diffuse patient, physician, and clinical staff issues. Fosters a team environment and is a mentor for clinical staff.

KEY RESULT AREAS (KRAs):

(Main duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to)

• Act as the hiring manager for clinical staff
• Training and coaching clinical staff 
• Manages time and attendance of clinical staff according to established guidelines
• Daily oversight and management of clinical staff
• Daily oversight and management of clinical operations, making changes/improvements as needed
• Assist Clinic Manager with onboarding of new providers
• Reviewing and updating provider’s clinical protocols as needed
• Ordering and managing clinic supplies, instruments, and clinic drugs
• Troubleshooting clinic equipment issues/problems; communicating with IT and/or vendor when necessary
• Liaison between providers and technicians and between providers and administration
• Filling in as technician when needed
• Resolve patient complaints or refer to appropriate resource
• Supervisory responsibility (indicate the number and type of persons supervised by incumbent: Directs the activities of multiple full-time clinical staff overseeing individual employee development and training, and conducts performance appraisals

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• High school Diploma/GED and three (5) years experience as an ophthalmic technician and some supervisory or related administrative experience. 
• COA Certification (required).
• COT Certification (highly preferred).
• Exhibits expert oral and written communication skills.
• Handles difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.
• Serves as a model for exemplary customer service.
