Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma /GED with 5 years of experience of ICD-10 and PCS coding in In-Patient or Acute Health care facility, use of DSM-5

Certification required CCS /RHIT/ RHIA, or other certifications from AHIMA/ AAPC.

Associate degree or bachelor's in science / related field

Current certification in CCS (preferred) or CCS-P is required.

CORE COMPETENCIES:

Ability to concentrate on minimal and fine detail with little to constant interruptions.

Needs to attend to task/function for less than 10 minutes at a time or more than 60 minutes at a time.

Ability to understand and relate to specific ideas generally as little as one at a time constantly; ability to understand and relate to the theories behind several related concepts frequently.

Ability to adapt to changing priorities.

Demonstrated ability to work independently.

Good interpersonal skills

Effective communications skills, both verbal and written; able to speak and write English fluently.

Ability to complete multiple tasks simultaneously and work under pressure.

Able to assist in other tasks as needed for HIM daily work support.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Analyzes and interprets patient medical records to identify and determine amount and nature of billable services; assigns and sequences appropriate diagnostic/procedure billing codes in compliance with requirements of third party payor requirements.
  2. Knowledge of medical terminology and disease process
  3. Interacts with physicians and other patient care providers regarding billing and documentation policies, procedures, and regulations; obtains clarification of conflicting, ambiguous, or non-specific documentation.
  4. Ability to write non-leading physician queries; updates medical record with answered queries - changes/revision-submittal of accounts that needs to be rebilled
  5. Ensures strict confidentiality of financial and medical records.
  6. Maintains a four days window turnaround time that meets organizational goals.
  7. Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety and environmental standards.
  8. Attends post-audit education meetings, and in-house sessions to receive updated coding information and changes in coding and/or regulations.
  9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
  10. Maintain a 97% accuracy rate for inpatient coding and out patient records
  11. Advises medical staff of appropriate documentation required for coding diagnosis or procedures
  12. Complete daily report, submit weekly productivity and time sheet
  13. Knowledge of basic computer skills including, Micro Soft Office Suite
