Universal Avionics is Hiring a Test Engineer II - Electronic/Opto-Electronic Near Tucson, AZ

At Universal Avionics, our Test Engineers support our advanced Avionics systems throughout the entire product life cycle. Products include our current Flight Management System, Recorders, Communications & Data Link and Flat Panel Displays, as well as the introduction of new optical technologies based around our Enhanced Flight Vision Systems and Head Wearable Displays. If you have experience in aerospace electrical or electro-optic design and testing, combined with a passion for continuous improvement, we’d love to talk to you!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and document final assembly test processes and/or ATE scripts for new or existing avionics products, ensuring that manufacturing and repair methods result in the repeatable production of units which conform to type design data.
  • Develop and support effective environmental test processes utilizing Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HASS).
  • Expand Universal Avionics’ technical capabilities in support of opto-electronic products including Enhanced Flight Vision Systems, Head Wearable Displays, and more.
  • Train and mentor technicians in electronic theory and troubleshooting, as required.
  • Coordinate frequently with design engineering groups to support effective new product introduction and ongoing product and test process improvement.
  • Play an active participatory and at times leadership role in daily tactical team standup meetings and in weekly strategic improvement meetings.
  • Improve the quality of new products being introduced into Manufacturing through active participation in Design for Manufacturability meetings and involvement in the New Product Introduction process.
  • Improve the quality and reliability of UASC products through regular, disciplined reviews of Manufacturing and/or Repair Station data and processes using continuous improvement, six sigma quality, or similar tools.
  • Respond promptly to team requests for assistance and be readily available to team for unscheduled meetings and necessary problem solving.
  • May Represent Operations Engineering on the Material Review and Configuration Control Boards, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems or Optical Engineering, or other technical degree combined with experience.
  • 6-8 years minimum experience in an aerospace product design or test engineering role involving complex analog and digital circuits with embedded software.
  • Electro-optic sensor/system experience desired.

Computer Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in all Microsoft Office programs.
  • Data base design and some programming experience in Visual Basic or C is a benefit.
  • LabVIEW or LabWindows experience is a benefit.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business, correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

  • Consistent with educational expectations

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
