Position SummaryThe Youth Engagement Specialist is a part-time position which supports the outreach, recruitment, and engagement of youth and young adults on behalf of the One Second Collaborative to build and maintain an effective youth-adult partnership.Supervisory Responsibilities: No direct supervisory responsibilities.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assists with the outreach and recruitment of youth and young adults 14-24 years of age.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the One Second Collaborative Youth Steering Committee.
  • Plans and coordinates Youth Steering Committee meetings and activities in collaboration with One Second Collaborative Program Coordinator.
  • Moderates or facilitates meetings and activities as assigned.
  • Assists with identifying and securing opportunities to increase youth participation and leadership across OSC initiatives.
  • Supports the development of a public safety plan with emphasis on youth voice, empowerment, and leadership.
  • Works to maintain relationships with youth, youth-serving, and youth-led networks at the direction of the OSC Program Director.
  • Assists in the development of Youth Steering Committee special projects including public awareness campaigns, documents, and materials.
  • Prepares and edits correspondence, presentations, reports, and memos under direction of OSC Program Director
  • Maintains project management and tracking tools and shared file drives as needed, ensuring they remain up to date.
  • Assists in program development and evaluation using a variety of data tools and research.
  • Provides logistical and scheduling support as needed.

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States (No Sponsorship)
  • Knowledge of Tarrant County required; community engagement experience in Tarrant County preferred.
  • Introductory understanding of youth violence, its impacts and solutions
  • Interest in working with diverse stakeholders who possess different perspectives, including community leaders and activist/organizers, residents affected by violence, young people at risk of violence, gang involved or impacted youth, service providers, criminal justice and other public agency staff and leaders required.
  • Must possess skills to engage and motivate youth and young adults who may have prior offending histories, prior gang affiliations, and unstable work histories.
  • Must have excellent networking and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community partners, social service providers, elected officials, colleagues and supervisors
  • Ability to speak in front of large groups, virtually and in public
  • Basic computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service in all interactions
Educational/Experience Requirements:
  • 0-1 year of experience in related youth leadership, community and relationship building activities
  • Experience motivating and leading a group of peers.
  • Personal and professional experience relevant to Tarrant County preferred
Personal Skills and Attributes:
  • Fluency in English required; Fluency in additional languages is beneficial, but not required.
  • Excellent leadership, team building, interpersonal and time management skills
  • A high energy, results-oriented team player and must be a self-starter with little supervision required.
  • An individual with the utmost professional and personal integrity
  • Personal values consistent with United Way mission
Additional requirements related to the job:
  • Texas driver’s license, proper vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Reliable Internet access to support remote work.
Work Hours/Environment: Part-time, 10-15 hours per week.
  • The position is a hybrid role that requires weekly, in-office participation on either Wednesday or Thursday.
  • Monthly Saturday morning or Friday evening, depending on the meeting schedule for the Youth Steering Committee.
  • Although remote work is permitted for this position, the individual must reside primarily in Tarrant County with the ability to work from the office or other required location daily if needed and when required.
