United Way of South Central Oklahoma JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

SUMMARY: The United Way of South Central Oklahoma is seeking a dynamic and experienced Executive Director to lead our organization towards achieving its mission of improving the health, safety, education and well-being of individual families in need. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and a proficient manager of resources in a nonprofit setting. Working within a small office environment, the Executive Director will play a pivotal role in directing and establishing goals, managing budgets, and overseeing multiple committees to ensure the efficient and impactful operation of the organization.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Directors, and communicates through the President and Executive Committee of the Board of Directors.

DUTIES:
Board Development and Organizational Leadership

  • Model and promote a culture of fundraising and innovation.
  • Assists the Board of Directors and Committees with direction in matters of policy formulation, interpretation and implementation; long and short-range goal setting and planning; as well as to assist in securing and retaining high quality volunteer leadership for United Way.
  • Provides regular updates to the Board of Directors regarding progress toward achieving objectives and measures of UWSCO strategies, impact of partner agencies, and trends affecting community needs, fundraising, and operations while adhering to United Way Worldwide and all state and federal entities.
  • Works with the President and Committee Chairpersons in planning meetings, preparing agendas, setting schedules, preparing minutes and providing relevant information.
  • Supervises all office operations including staff hiring, training and supervision; and the management of time, space and equipment resources.
  • Recruits, trains and coordinates volunteers to govern effectively
  • Develops collaborative efforts with committees and community to effectively identify and resolve critical needs.

Finance

  • Efficiently manages financial resources of United Way of South Central Oklahoma and programs operating under its auspices including: assisting in development and monitoring of the operating budgets, facilitating timely payments to vendors and member agencies, and overseeing financial control policies. Works closely with Administrative Assistant in maintenance of financial records and preparation of audits.
  • Prepare and submit requests for grants from large community funders, ex: McCrory Foundation, etc.
  • Maintain relationships with financial institutions within the community.
  • Uses sound procedures, in accordance with the principles of United Way, to ensure efficient solicitation, collection and record keeping, including campaign pledges and payments.
  • Maintain Donation Tracker software for accurate recording of pledges, payments and grant program expenses and income.

Campaign

  • Provides leadership and coordination of annual campaign activities in collaboration with the Board of Directors and Campaign Drive Chair to accomplish goals. Works with Campaign Chair and Executive Committee to set annual goal.
  • Work with the Executive Committee and board members to develop a plan of action and volunteer needs to meet fundraising objectives.
  • Develops ongoing personal contacts and cultivates current and potential donors, corporations and foundations.
  • Solicits contributions from corporations, individuals, and foundations for campaign, event sponsorships, and other fundraising efforts, as needed.
  • Works with the Treasurer in presentation of monthly and quarterly financials, for operating budget or United Way sponsored programs/initiatives.

Allocations

  • Provides direction and support for the annual granting process while ensuring that the

Allocation process is followed.

  • Works with allocation committee members to implement procedures to determine qualified agencies or initiatives to distribute funds to partners.
  • Oversees allocations process by announcing fund availability, distributing applications, and coordinating volunteer review of applications.
  • Provides technical assistance to agencies’ staff and volunteers, and United Way volunteers regarding allocation processes and operations.

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Promotes public understanding and support for human service needs and programs by representing United Way in community activities. This includes effectively using the media, directing year-round public relations programs,and conveying United Way policies and positions to business leaders, government, other human services agencies, and the community-at-large.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of media plan, including website and social media

platforms.

  • Assists with the development of campaign materials including: brochure, pledge forms, and electronic media.

Community Involvement and Agency Relations

  • Develops, cultivates, and maintains relationships with key leaders and groups across the nonprofit, corporate, and government sectors including all agencies supported by United Way.
  • Monitors agency activity to ensure that United Way funds are used as intended.
  • Maintains cooperative relationships with other United Way organizations.
  • Works closely with key stakeholders to develop a vision, strategies, and goals to improve lives within our communities, emphasizing UWSCO’s key focus areas.
  • Positions United Way as a community partner to effectively serve the five county area of Marshall, Murray, Johnston, Carter and Love counties.

Other duties as mutually agreed upon by the Executive Director and Board.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • The equivalent of 3-5 years experience in the nonprofit sector specifically in the areas of administration, communications, development, fundraising, fund distribution and volunteer management.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, written and oral communications skills.
  • Initiative, self-discipline and the ability to work without supervision while supervising and motivating others.
  • Ability to work effectively with community leaders, donors and applicants demonstrating a blend of leadership presence and cooperative work style.
  • Capacity to help determine community needs.
  • A compelling commitment to the philanthropic sector and to the betterment of the quality of life for the residents of the area.
  • Integrity, honesty, and high ethical standards in all professional performance and behavior. Confidentiality is a must.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The Executive Director is an exempt, salaried employee of United Way of South Central Oklahoma, working full time, as determined by the Board of Directors. Normal work week is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.

However, some meetings and/or special events require time outside the regular work week, particularly during the annual fall campaign when there are expectations to attend UW fundraisers sponsored by partner agencies and other businesses. Attendance is required at the annual Valero BBQ Showdown.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
