Position Summary:
The Associate Director, Economic Mobility contributes to the efforts of United Way of Greater Nashville by having the vision, passion, and leadership to build economic mobility programming and services for individuals and families. The Associate Director will provide strategic leadership to the SNAP Employment & Training partnerships across the State of Tennessee. The Associate Director will represent UWGN in all facets of workforce development and job training and is integral in convening and fostering community partnerships for the advancement of economic mobility statewide.

Associate Director Tasks:

  • Manage and maintain collaborative partnerships and contractual agreements across TN to reach more individuals and families eligible for workforce development, job skills training, and education.
  • Works intentionally with the State to ensure compliance with the grant(s) and documents and records all conversations related to potential audits or other substantial communications.
  • Identifies, creates, and implements short and long-term goals and objectives with the aim of achieving successful outcomes for the programs in partnership with the community.
  • Identifies, develops, and coordinates successful approaches for marketing and outreach to secure partnerships, volunteers, and clients for all programs and services.
  • Train partners across the state and provide ongoing technical assistance to ensure compliance and successful outcomes with all subcontracts and local impact.
  • Compile reports frequently, process invoices and requests for reimbursement, and generate check requests for all programs/ grants.
  • Manage all financials, supporting documents, partner invoicing, and financials for the SNAP E&T grant.
  • Manage contractual partnerships to ensure compliance, conduct site visits, provide technical assistance and training, and provide ongoing support to partners.
  • Support and contribute to the Economic Mobility work within UWGN and across the community ensuring services are coordinated, best practices are being shared, partners are receiving necessary professional development, and policy/advocacy efforts are coordinated for the greatest impact.
  • Collaborates with the Director, Community Impact to secure additional funding for programming and ensuring UWGN is represented at all workforce and educational conversations statewide.
  • Prepares and represents the United Way during financial audits and reviews of all contracts/ grants that are being managed by this position.
  • Ensure websites and communication newsletters are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Generate mass emails and communications for SNAP E&T in coordination with marketing.
  • Keep current on the national workforce development field to further the advancement of the work across Middle Tennessee.
  • Attend UW staff functions and serve on cross-functional teams as appropriate to ensure connectivity of all work.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Staff Management Tasks:

  • Provides leadership, supervision, and professional development opportunities to SNAP staff to ensure they have the tools needed to successfully perform their roles and responsibilities.
  • Develops staff through ongoing coaching to create a high-performing team.
  • Provide supervision and guidance on all compliance needs for grants.

Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, business, finance, or related field; or 5 years relevant experience
  • Experience:
    • Program management: 3 years (SNAP E&T preferred)
    • Staff management: 3 years
    • Working with and engaging nonprofit organization leadership committees
    • Grant management, including federal grants.
  • Knowledge:
    • Understanding individual struggles in workforce and financial behaviors
    • Diverse populations and cultures and the behaviors related to financial and employment decision-making.
  • Skills:
    • Conflict management
    • Written, oral, and technological communication.
    • Ability to relate to people of varied economic, racial, ethnic & religious backgrounds.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, especially Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Miscellaneous:
    • A valid driver’s license & proof of insurance

Environmental Conditions and Physical Demands:

  • Employee spends a lot of time seated; working at a desk in front of a computer monitor. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers.
  • Employee will be required to stand for long periods of time during outreach and trainings.
  • Requires the employee to work externally in the community. This may require the picking up, transporting, and delivering supplies throughout Middle TN. This requires the employee to be able to drive to different locations.
  • Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, and balance.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers and perform repetitive hand/wrist motions.
  • Well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
