Job Title: Quality Inspector

Report To: Shift Supervisor and Quality Manager

Status: Non-exempt

SUMMARY

Quality Inspectors work with manufacturing professionals during the production process and are responsible for a final in-depth inspection before approving the product. More importantly, quality inspectors find the faults in both materials and the manufacturing process. Correcting those faults ensures a better finished product for customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES and REQUIREMENTS

  • Perform testing of finished goods to ensure compliance and product integrity
  • Actively monitor current production of finished goods to ensure industry standards are being met at all times; maximize plant efficiency
  • Inspect and test material per quality standards
  • Report out of tolerance parts, materials, or product
  • Report any errors in production process
  • Report any specifications that may be wrong or missing to engineering
  • Preserve working relationships with outside organizations for company success; including audits relating to certifying agencies. Oversee outside agency inspections
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports
  • Diagnose and correct problems to assure quality production
  • Responsible to maintain, service, repair instruments used in the measurement of finished product
  • Examine returned goods; maintain proper records as well
  • Sustain open lines of communication across all departments in support of overall company goals
  • Proactively implement, promote, and maintain a safe and clean working environment; wear Personal Protective Equipment as required by various areas in plant, including hardhat and safety glasses
  • Responsible for Continuous Improvement efforts
  • Stay abreast to all emerging trends, up to date science research and innovations and technological advances
  • Any other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • High School diploma or GED Equivalent required
  • Two year technical degree in related field or at least three years recent manufacturing production/quality experience preferred.
  • Language Skills – Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information to other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee is required to sit, climb, balance, carry, push, pull, reach, and adjust body position to bend, stoop, walk, turn, pivot, and stand for long periods of time. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 65 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Hearing and vision required to be within normal ranges. Read at, above, and below shoulder height. Sufficient manual dexterity required to operate equipment. Ability to communicate orally in a clear, concise and effective manner with the co-workers, company representatives, management, and staff in face-to-face, one-on-one and group settings. Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, chemicals and/or airborne particles, high pressure fluids, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
