Description
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Loads, delivers and picks up merchandise typically from the warehouse for delivery to customer homes or businesses.
2. According to company policy identifies items and/or boxes delivered or returned, accounts for overage/shortages and damaged products.
3. Ensures deliveries are made as planned, using typical routes and meeting delivery schedules as planned.
4. Performs all functions in compliance with all DOT regulations and company safety rules.
5. Maintains cleanliness of vehicle and report any maintenance problems to supervisor.
6. Reads schedules, customer orders, work orders, delivery orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, distributed or staged for further handling.
7. May be required to examine and inspect containers, materials, and products in order to ensure that packing specifications are met. Identifies damaged merchandise or missing items in accordance with company policy.
8. Performs every shift using proper methods, procedures, policy, daily driver requirements, merchandise inspection, proper padding and loading, manifest and problem check sheet procedures, in-home delivery expectations, truck driving defensive driving skills and testing requirements.
9. Accepts returns from customers, completing appropriate processes and returns merchandise or items to warehouse. Places item(s) in return area with appropriate documentation.
10. Addresses and resolves customer problems as appropriate. Informs supervisor of any issues that remain outstanding related to customer deliveries, truck loading, and route sequence.
11. Maintains cleanliness of vehicle and report any maintenance problems to supervisor.
12. May be required to maintain records associated with receipt or delivery of merchandise or items, training documentation, safety efforts and techniques used to properly accomplish related tasks.
13. May be required to compile worksheets or tickets from work sheets or written specifications. Responsible for maintaining accurate records.
14. May review policy or procedures and make recommendations for changes.
15. Required to assist with maintaining the work area in a safe and orderly manner at all times.
16. Required to Use and/or wear all safety equipment required to perform the work required of the position.
17. May assist with inspections, spot checks, route changes and administrative matters related to the department in the Delivery Managers’ absence.
18. Reports any discrepancies regarding the readiness and proper staging of delivery merchandise.
19. Reports all breaches of security, potential loss or observed loss to appropriate member of management.
20. Performs other duties as assigned or that may surface during routine operations.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Ability to work productively and effectively in all functional warehouse areas under sometimes stressful working conditions such as tight time frames, heavy work loads, or conflicting demands.
· Effective communication skills.
· Must present a professional company image, excellent customer service skills and have the ability to deal effectively with difficult customers or employees.
· Must demonstrate initiative, the ability to think and take constructive action at work independently.
· Ability to exercise good judgment and problem-solving skills.
· Needs to have basic math skills and be detail oriented for accurate record keeping.
· Basic knowledge of inventory controls and procedures.
· Ability to use a systematic and effective approach in analyzing information in order to come up with good business solutions to problems.
· Knowledge and experience implementing and enforcing safety standards and procedures common to a warehouse environment.
· Ability to understand and follow verbal instructions.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule if necessary.
Requirements
MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED. Some experience in a warehouse environment and as a delivery driver is required. Must maintain a valid driver’s license; be at least 21 years of age. Ability to read and speak English sufficient to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records. Must be D.O.T. certified with a 3-year clean driving record and physically qualified to drive by passing a DOT physical.
