Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide services to UCC programs in the areas of Art therapy in various settings/modalities, and children’s day treatment. AODA residential and day treatment and with the elder community and dementia units.

Duties:

  • Determine the Art therapy needs of each modality by becoming familiar with the population.
  • Assist counselors and clients in developing and implementing an art therapy plan/component to enhance treatment.
  • Encourage clients to express emotion and explore their problems using a wide range of art materials, enabling positive change and personal growth.
  • Uses the creative process of artmaking to improve and enhance the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of clients.
  • Keep up to date with research and new ideas, keeping license/certifications up to date.
  • Planning, designing, and facilitating a schedule of activities with individual clients and client grips.
  • Keeps up to date with administration, making phone calls, writing reports and case notes, and drafting letters to other professionals as needed.
  • Constructively challenges the behavior and attitude of clients.
  • Assess the needs of the clients by listening and providing guidance.
  • Obtains information and clarity options from other professionals on the team including therapist, psychiatrist, psychologist, and program manager.
  • Facilitates art exploration, to improve hand-eye coordination, and assists in encouraging a healthier lifestyle and alternative healthy behaviors/expression.
  • Maintains follow-up with participants to determine and ensure positive outcomes/success.
  • Plans and conducts art therapy programs to rehabilitate social, psychological, and physical disabilities.
  • Confers with members of the medically oriented team to determine the physical and psychological needs of the client.
  • Devises art therapy programs to fulfill physical and psychological needs.
  • Instruct individuals and groups in the use of various art materials, such as paint, clay, and yarn.
  • Appraises client’s art projection recovery progress.
  • Uses their skills in evaluation and psychotherapy to choose materials and interventions appropriate to the client’s needs, designs sessions to achieve therapeutic goals and objectives.
  • Maintain appropriate charts, records, and periodic reports on client’s progress as required per department guidelines and professional standards.
  • Participates in professional staff meetings and conferences and provides information and consultation regarding clients’ clinical progress.
  • Conducts a three-way process between clients, therapist (self), and the art produced.
  • Maintains and repairs art materials and equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Works with clinical supervisor, Psychiatrist, Psychologist, Registered Nurse and Director of Human Services to plan, implement, and evaluate treatment plan/progress on a regular basis.
  • Represents program at various community functions.
  • Maintains working relationships with RSC’s, PO’s, Caseworkers involved in participant’s life/ treatment programs.
  • Notifies RSC internally or externally of discharge/ or change in the level of care in order for GPRA to be completed, meets standards set by funding source/ contract.
  • Presents a positive and professional role model for all staff and clients.
  • Shares the responsibility towards creating and sustaining an environment that humanizes and individualizes each client.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager.
  • Supports the goals of the agency’s mission.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy skills, using MS Office, Google applications, and other basic data systems including internet navigation.
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Qualifications



QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A registered art therapist or art psychotherapist is preferred. Master’s degree in social work or related field. At least 3 years of experience in Art Therapy Bilingual (Spanish/English) is desirable. Previous experience working with children, adolescents, and adults’ families, Valid WI driver’s license and insurance. Computer skills in word, excel, PowerPoint, and outlook.
