POSITION SUMMARY
The goal of the teacher intern role is to provide each candidate with the opportunities, resources, and skills needed to later transition into a full-time teaching position within our schools. Each teacher intern will be paired with a teacher mentor with previous teaching experience, who will work closely with each intern in their classroom to develop, plan, and prepare lessons, instruction, curriculum, and assessments. The intern will work in collaboration with grade level and department staff to learn how to implement high-quality instruction across our UCC schools. Interns will participate in professional development, be provided with guidance on curriculum implementation, learn how to implement school-wide assessments, and learn best practices in classroom management and instruction from a mentor teacher. The goal is to grow the skills of each teacher intern so they have the skills and confidence needed to later transition into a full-time teaching role.
Each teacher intern will work collaboratively with their mentor teacher to teach, re-teach, provide small-group instruction, or support individual classrooms in a variety of ways. Teacher interns may be asked to provide sub coverage for daily absences, or may be asked to cover for staff who have extended leave.
Interns will be placed with a teacher mentor based on each candidate's experience, skillset, interests, and preferred grade level placement. The availability of mentor teachers and needs of each school will also be taken into account.
