United American Indian Involvement is Hiring an Activities Assistant Near Los Angeles, CA

Activities Assistant

Department: Youth Services

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Reports To: Director of Youth Services

Hours of Work: 40

Working Title: Program Assistant

Classification: Full-Time

Pay Grade: G-03 ($22.05 - $33.08 hourly)

FTE: 1.0

Location: 1453 W. Temple St; On-site

Job Summary

Incumbent will serve as the agency liaison between youth services, primary care, and behavioral health care programs at UAII, along with providing support as needed within the Youth Services Department. Also, serves as lead for UAII's CDC Tribal Practices for Wellness in Indian Country, a project to conduct tribal practices and cultural traditions to the American Indian/Alaska Native community to reduce health risk factors and strengthen community health and wellness.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for day to day aspects of the project.
  • Responsible for ensuring that all required data and reports are completed and submitted.
  • Participate in project planning and coordination of project activities.
  • Participate in project conference calls and meetings.
  • Recruit project participants and conduct community outreach activities.
  • Coordinate and oversees program evaluations.
  • Collaborate with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Facilitate informational workshops relevant to disease prevention and health promotion.
  • Collaborate with project partners and consultants to plan, design, and implement project activities.
  • Produce reports in a timely and accurate manner as required by funding sources and the Program Director.
  • Maintain documentation of all client encounters utilizing internal data management system (RPMS).
  • Responsible for communication and collaborating with various community agencies.
  • Attend all staff meetings and departmental and agency events as required by the supervisor.
  • Travel for work related professional development or for work related functions like youth retreats, summer camp, and youth conferences.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Associate degree from an accredited university in public health, social work, physical education, or related field.
  • Four (4) years of recent experience in coordinating project activities.
  • One (1) year of recent experience in developing and conducting workshops.
  • One (1) year of experience working with youth, families, and seniors.
  • Maintain valid CA Driver's License and Auto Insurance.
  • A combination of experience, education, and training may substitute for degree requirements on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications (Education & Experience)

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in public health, social work, physical education, or related field.
  • Five (5) years of recent experience in coordinating project activities.
  • Experience working with the American Indian/Alaskan Native community.
  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, community groups, and performance-based government contracts.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge and familiarity with local and state parks & recreation.
  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) cultures and lifestyles, and work effectively with AI/AN population.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Skill in organizing and leading outdoor activities.
  • Skills in operating personal computer using a variety of computer software (Microsoft Office, Adobe, Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client and personnel information, and comply with all applicable federal and state privacy laws, as well as UAII policy (HIPAA, HITECH, etc.).
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with management, coworkers, and outside contacts.
  • Ability to keep up with a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to interact with various people on various, and at times, complex issues.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here represent those employee encounters while performing the primary functions of this job. Normal office conditions exist, and the noise level in the work environment can vary from low to moderate. Work conditions can also be outside when leading physical activities or when participating in camping activities.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
