Job description

The Organization

Founded in 1908, St. Barnabas Senior Services (SBSS) is a nonsectarian, nonprofit organization grounded in the belief that all older adults have the right to age with dignity.

As the oldest senior service agency in LA, SBSS has grown from operating a single senior center in Mid-City to what it is today - a dynamic senior service agency developing new models of care and providing innovative services throughout the Greater Los Angeles Area. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead evidence-based program instruction on-site and in the community.
  • Perform community outreach, promotion, and recruitment of participants; helping to coordinate training sessions; assisting with the development of program curriculum.
  • Work with external partners to deliver evidence-based programs.
  • Perform intake and enrollment of participants (this may require Spanish-speaking skills for those monolingual Spanish-speaking seniors).
  • Prepare reports and maintain accurate program records.
  • Set up the activity room and calendar for the day.
  • Work with the membership manager and the Director of Programs to develop activity Calendars in a quarterly basis.
  • Requires a flexible schedule as some weekends may be needed.
  • Local travel is required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in outreach activities and building program attendance, particularly with older, multi-ethnic adults.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by the ability to relate establish and cultivate respectful relationships with older people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Effective communication skills in person, over the phone, and through writing.
  • Excellent organizational and prioritization skills, showing flexibility as needed; adept at dealing with conflicting/changing priorities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently to achieve stated goals.
  • Strong multitasking and problem-solving skills; ability to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Has a vehicle and proof of insurance, valid California driver’s license and a good driving record.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may supervise volunteers or Title V workers as needed.

Travel

Driving in your own vehicle may be expected for this position.

Education & Experience

  • High school graduate.
  • Clean DMV driving record.
  • Valid CA DL & Insurance.

Language Skills:

  • Bilingual Spanish/English or Korean/English required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate data for
reports such as number of attendees per class per day/week.
