Key Responsibilities:

The Managing Director (MD) of Reliability and Maintenance Programs is responsible for developing, maintaining and improving reliability-based maintenance programs for United’s global fleet, utilizing advanced reliability analytics and machine learning tools for maintenance program compliance. This role will lead an integrated team of reliability engineers, fleet managers, maintenance program engineers and technical writers, as well as a team of digital fleet engineers and aircraft health monitoring engineers. This MD will own the strategy for United’s maintenance program, in coordination with regulatory and OEM requirements, while continually improving the effectiveness of the maintenance programs and reliability of United’s fleet. This function is a critical role within United’s fleet reliability and maintenance program and the MD will be required to provide regular updates to senior leaders.

Performance Driven

  • Develop and maintain reliability and maintenance programs that appropriately balance safety, customer experience, mechanical defects, and economic concerns to prioritize areas of focus.
  • Establishes aggressive goals for performance improvement and achieves desired results.
  • Evaluates the ongoing analysis of non-routine findings, reliability data and the effectiveness of
  • maintenance programs and provide recommendations for improvements as necessary.

Team development

  • Fosters an environment that encourages learning; promotes a culture of innovation, agility, inclusion, and teamwork.
  • Provides overall leadership, oversight, and direction to the teams to ensure effective and efficient maintenance and reliability programs.

Lead by influence

  • Guides and prioritizes the work performed by other departments within United Airlines including Maintenance, Planning, Supply Chain, Engineering, Digital Technology, and others.
  • Collaborates with key suppliers to deliver practical, on-time solutions to United Airlines

Strategic and tactical focus

  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving reliability-based maintenance programs for United’s global fleet, utilizing advanced reliability analytics and machine learning tools for maintenance program compliance.
  • Develop action plans to address specific systems and/or specific aircraft within a fleet by identifying, investigating, and resolving problems that impact operational performance and redesigning the maintenance program based on the operational performance.

Compliance

  • Ensures the organization meets or exceeds the relevant maintenance requirements, reliability programs and reporting requirements contained in United Airlines General Maintenance Manual, Title 14 of Code of Federal Regulations, and associated FAA guidance material.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree (Engineering, science, or mathematics)
  • 10 years of related experience
  • Knowledge and experience in aircraft reliability, reliability engineering, maintenance programs, line and/or heavy maintenance
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master's degree or MBA
  • Six Sigma Black Belt
  • Apollo Root Cause analysis or equivalent
  • 15 years of related experience
  • Knowledge and experience in data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence and working its data scientists to develop cutting edge analytics tools.
  • Experience in predictive reliability.
