United Activities Unlimited is Hiring a Community Pathway Worker Near Staten Island, NY

The Division of Prevention Services partnered with UAU and Staten Island schools to offer families flexible service options and support. This is part of the broader interagency efforts between ACS and the DOE to prevent families at risk of receiving ACS interventions at home.

POSITION SUMMARY: In this role, a community pathway worker will play a vital part in providing direct support to 8 families within the school community, under the guidance of the School Outreach Liaison. They will utilize motivational interviewing techniques to empower families to reach their goals and create nurturing environments for their children.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):

  • Family Support and Empowerment:

o Provide case management services to (8) eight families who self-enroll in the program.

o Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to support families in identifying their strengths, setting goals, and overcoming challenges.

o Partner with families to develop and implement individualized support plans.

o Connect families with appropriate resources within the community.

  • Parent Education and Support:

o Co-facilitate evidence-based parent support groups alongside the School Outreach Liaison/Parent Support EBP Lead using the Triple P model, empowering parents with positive techniques to manage challenging behaviors and build strong relationships with their children.

o Facilitate open communication and peer support within the parent groups.

  • Collaboration and Outreach:

o Work collaboratively with the School Outreach Liaison to support school partnership and outreach efforts.

o Assist with program events and initiatives focused on supporting families within the school community.

  • Build a strong and supporting school community:

o Become a trusted liaison between school staff, families, internal UAU programs and community partners.

o Proactively build trust and rapport with families, building strong relationships with families from diverse backgrounds, promoting inclusivity and accessibility.

o Meet with school teams to identify at-risk families.

o Educate school staff about the program and its target population.

o Integrate the program with school prevention plans as appropriate.

o Track program participation, outcomes, and data in Client Track (agency database) to maintain accurate records and generate reports.

o Implement data-driven improvements and stay up to date on best practices in family support and children's development.

o Keep all stakeholders informed through regular communication, including newsletters, social media, and meetings.

  • Develop and execute School-Based Offerings: Identify the needs of the school community and create engaging programs such as workshops (parenting skills, financial literacy), cultural events celebrating diversity, and youth events promoting social and emotional learning in collaboration with respective schools, and existing UAU programs currently in operation.
  • Stay Current on Family Support Best Practices: Attend relevant training and workshops to continuously improve program effectiveness. Including but not limited to Motivational Interviewing, Trauma informed care, cultural competency, and other workforce development training.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), or Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with families and children.
  • Experience using motivational interviewing techniques in a helping profession.
  • Strong understanding of student support services, including IEPs, 504 plans, and SEL programs.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
  • Training in trauma-informed care.
  • Understanding of child development.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport with families from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need.
  • Standard office equipment including computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, telephones, etc.
  • Position is in a well-lighted office environment.
  • Involves sitting approximately 80% of the day, walking or standing the remainder.
  • May include travel to a variety of locations, based on programming needs. Which is reimbursed in accordance with UAU’s fiscal policies and procedures. Also requires a reliable mode of transportation.
  • May include working prolonged periods of time sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • The ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
