Union Gospel Mission of Tarrant County is Hiring a Cook Near Fort Worth, TX

Position Summary

The Cook leads the preparation and serving of daily meals provided by Union Gospel Mission for residents, guests and visitors. The Cook functions as an essential member of the UGM kitchen team, and as such, accepts assignments to perform various duties within the kitchen. The Cook reports to the Food Services Director. 

What You Do:

  1. Prepare menu items as directed 
  2. Ensure that trays, steam tables, and food carts are set up for the serving line
  3. Set up serving area for special meals as directed 
  4. Clean kitchen and equipment, including stoves, ovens, steam tables, food carts, windows, doors, refrigerators, and other equipment
  5. Store food items appropriately with labels and dates 
  6. Train kitchen volunteers and Skill Builders
  7. Provide instruction to assist in Skill Development
  8. Assist with kitchen inventory 
  9. Lead/mentor program workers assigned to kitchen for skill building
  10. As needed, serve food on cafeteria serving line
  11. Assist in maintaining a clean storage area
  12. Take in food donations if needed and store properly.
  13. Other duties as assigned

What You Bring:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  2. Prior cooking experience required
  3. Valid food handlers permit
  4. Provide leadership, coaching and mentor volunteers and Skill Builders 
  5. Organizational and time management skills
  6. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  8. Commitment to the mission and vision of the organization
