Since 2013, our site Unither Manufacturing LLC. based in Rochester (NY), specializes in the manufacture of Blow-Fill-Seal, Liquid Stick-Packs, Pharmaceutical bottles, Tablets and Capsules. It has more than 280 employees.

Your role

Reporting to the Supply Chain Manager,

The Packaging Engineering Technician is directly involved in theselection, specification, regulatory compliance, and change management of allprinted packaging and labeling components and associated documentationincluding but not limited to Bills of Material, component specifications andpackaging equipment settings. To besuccessful, the Packaging Engineering Technician must be directly involved inlabeling and artwork changes, component changes including artwork revisions,assessment of new and/or modified materials, investigation and resolution ofnon-compliant components, new product development, and regulatorydocumentation. He/she also needs to beinvolved in line trials and the identification, evaluation, and possibleimplementation of packaging process changes to improve quality andefficiency. They ensure that technicalsupport is provided to Purchasing, QA/QC, Operations, Product Development, andRegulatory Affairs for matters concerning artwork, labeling, and secondary andtertiary components.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / RESPONSIBILITIES:
PackagingComponents and Labeling/Artwork that Meets Customer Requirements (60%)
Establishes and maintains Secondary and Tertiary Packaging specifications and source files for all labeling and printed components including both structural and graphic designs. Creates and modifies shipper pallet patterns in appropriate software (i.e. TOPS) as an input to work instructions for Packaging operations; provides to customers as requested for Distribution, ERP set up, etc.
Evaluates and implements Change Controls for customer artwork revisions, supplier material or process changes, purchased component deviations, and manufacturing improvements. Collaborates with Graphic Designer (customer, internal, or subcontractor) to ensure regulatory approved artwork is released for production that meets customer implementation timing.
Supports both New Product Launch and Internal Optimization teams with packaging, labeling, material characteristics (substrates, adhesive, inks, etc.) and printing technical expertise, including specification creation or updates, artwork, labels, and pallet patterns. This includes proactively seeking component changes leading to improvements in cost, supply reliability, product protection and handling, or user convenience. Interfaces with Engineering & Operations in execution of Line Trials for new and component changes. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of primary and secondary Bill of Material(s).
Supports Regulatory, QA and Business Development. Stays up to date on cGMP’s, FDA regulations, industry standard labeling and printing processes applicable to the pharmaceutical industry.
Effective& Efficient Processes (40%)
Ensures the development, documentation, and implementation of standardized processes for key business functions. Develops quantitative techniques to monitor process performance. Ensures stakeholders are appropriately trained on the process and any process changes.
Evaluates effectiveness of package engineering documentation and SOPs. Identifies changes that would enhance the process and ensures that all change control documentation is implemented. Challenges the way it has always been done.
Utilizes understanding of regulatory environment and industry trends, including available new technologies, to identify ways to improve process quality and compliance.

SPECIFICSKILLS:
Strong problem solving and investigation techniques.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong organization skills with the ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment and balance multiple priorities.
Must be capable of working independently, with self-initiative, self-motivation, and self-strategic direction, while also effectively working within team and matrix environment to influence and guide activity.
Solid understanding and interpretation of Regulatory guidance documents and filing mechanisms.

Your profile

B.A./B.S. in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science or related discipline.
2 years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry in a manufacturing or packaging environment highly preferred

Compensation range

65,000.00 - 75,000.00 USD

*The referenced compensation range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
