SALARY

This is approximately a 3-month-long internship. $20.00 - $23.00/hour for candidates in Washington state.

ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Maintenance Engineer Intern will be responsible for learning Unico’s standards and expectations regarding quality of work, and will gain valuable experience about building maintenance, basic repairs, and working in a commercial office portfolio.

Essential Functions include but are not limited to:

  • Identify property staff members and positions.
  • Learn use of company-issued equipment in appropriate manner.
  • Learn the Emergency Operation Plan of the properties.
  • Learn what a preventative maintenance program is and its components.
  • Learn the basic components of the electrical system.
  • Performs basic repairs and maintenance tasks, some special project work for tenants as directed.

SKILLS

  • Familiar with hand tools and general maintenance
  • Excellent customer service

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Physical Activities and Requirements of this Position

  • Finger Dexterity: Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together
  • Talking: Especially where one must frequently convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly
  • Average Hearing: Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information
  • Repetitive Motions: Movements frequently and regularly required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Average Visual Abilities: Average, ordinary, visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery
  • Physical Strength: Work requires occasional lifting of 50-75 lbs. and routine lifting of 25 lbs.; ability to maneuver in confined spaces 10% of the time; ability to perform duties at heights 10% of the time

Mental Activities and Requirements of this Position

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables
  • Mathematics Ability: Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two digit numbers; to perform the basic arithmetic operations with money; to perform operations with units such as inch, foot, and yard / ounce and pound
  • Language Ability: Ability to use passive vocabulary of 5,000-6,000 words; ability to read at a slow rate; ability to define unfamiliar words in dictionaries for meaning, spelling, and pronunciation
