The Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI), of Underwriters Laboratories Research Institutes (ULRI), is recruiting a Research Engineer III. This position is located in our Columbia, MD facility.
The Research Engineer III is responsible for performing fire dynamics research and combustion products analysis using laser based diagnostic methods. Responsibilities include literature studies, experimental design, instrumentation design, data acquisition, data analysis and the documentation necessary to execute comprehensive experimental studies for FSRI. The Research Engineer III assists in conducting studies and analysis to determine the feasibility of various engineering approaches. Defines concepts and criteria to resolve major problems in current programs or approaches. Plans and conducts experiments using the body of scientific knowledge on topics related to hazard based safety engineering. Projects require substantial knowledge of state-of-the-art engineering principals and theories and uses professional concepts and procedures to solve a wide range of research-based problems. Utilizes typesetting programs such as latex, open-source computer programing for data analysis such as Python and work sharing platforms such as GitHub to support research projects.
