UNC Health Appalachian is Hiring a Clinic Scheduler, Internal Medicine Near Boone, NC

About the Role
The Clinic Scheduler plays a vital role in coordinating patient appointments and scheduling activities for both App Internal Medicine and App Pulmonology clinics. This position operates in a hybrid model, with alternating weeks spent working onsite in the clinic and remotely. The Clinic Scheduler is responsible for efficiently managing clinic schedules, ensuring patient appointments are scheduled accurately and in a timely manner, and facilitating effective communication between patients, healthcare providers, and administrative staff. Key responsibilities include:
  1. Appointment Scheduling:
    • Coordinate patient appointments for both App Internal Medicine and App Pulmonology clinics using electronic scheduling systems.
    • Schedule new patient visits, follow-up appointments, diagnostic tests, and procedures based on provider availability and patient needs.
    • Confirm appointments with patients and provide necessary instructions and reminders.
  2. Clinic Schedule Management:
    • Maintain and update clinic schedules to reflect provider availability, clinic hours, and appointment types.
    • Optimize scheduling efficiency to minimize wait times and maximize provider productivity.
    • Coordinate scheduling adjustments and accommodate urgent or emergency appointment requests as needed.
  3. Patient Communication:
    • Communicate with patients to gather necessary information for appointment scheduling, including demographic details, insurance coverage, and medical history.
    • Provide patients with appointment reminders, pre-visit instructions, and relevant information about clinic procedures.
    • Address patient inquiries, concerns, and requests in a courteous and timely manner.
  4. Remote Work Responsibilities:
    • During remote weeks, manage appointment scheduling, patient communication, and administrative tasks from a remote location using designated software and communication tools.
    • Collaborate effectively with onsite staff and providers to ensure continuity of care and smooth clinic operations.
    • Maintain accessibility and responsiveness to patient inquiries and clinic needs while working remotely.
  5. Administrative Support:
    • Assist with patient registration, insurance verification, and medical records management as needed.
    • Process referrals, authorizations, and other administrative tasks related to appointment scheduling.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and scheduling data.
This is a HYBRID position with ROTATING weeks in our clinic located in Boone, NC. Rotation may vary and is subject to change based on staffingCompensation is commensurate with education and experience. Hiring compensation ranges from $15.75 - $22.84 per hour. Eligible for comprehensive benefits after a 60-day waiting period. 

What You Need

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or coursework in healthcare administration preferred.
  • Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting, with experience in appointment scheduling and patient coordination.
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and scheduling software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively, especially in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Comfortable with hybrid work arrangements and able to work independently while remote.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, and billing processes is a plus.
