Purpose of the Position:

The Program Director is responsible for the overall effectiveness of their assigned program, oversees the management of the courses offered by the Clearwater campus, and directly supervises the faculty who report to them.

The Program Director assumes the program coordinator responsibilities and serves as liaison with the Board of Nursing. As such, the Program Director is responsible for the leadership and administration of assigned courses and faculty teams and overall program outcomes.

The Program Director informs a variety of Education department and institutional affairs including program effectiveness plans, advisory boards, faculty council and committees, taskforce meetings, targeted student outreach, satisfactory academic progress, accreditation/certification, policy, and procedure adherence, as well as faculty and staff hiring, supervision and development.

The Program Director leads the retention, graduation, and placement success of the Nursing Assistant & Patient Care Technician program. They effectively and efficiently coordinate with the Learner Services, Career Services, and other departments as appropriate to problem-solve and execute data-driven solutions to increase program health, curriculum viability, instructor performance, and student achievement.

The Program Director is also responsible for instructing courses in their assigned program.

Key Responsibilities:

Functional:

  • Plan, lead, and administer the designated portions of the Nursing Assistant & Patient Care Tech program in accordance to regulatory and institutional requirements.
  • Plan and deliver instruction, providing didactic and simulated clinical instruction.
  • Evaluate performance, provide feedback, develop remediation plans as needed.
  • Administer and monitor classroom inventory and budget for the designated portions of the program.
  • Plan instruction in a web-enhanced teaching and learning environment that utilizes digital solutions for courses, textbooks, learning labs, on-line tutoring, and other learning support services.
  • Partners effectively with Education department program teams to refine UMAs approach to core curriculum, assessment and remediation as well as Program, Student and Faculty Affairs including Taskforce Meetings, Advisory Boards, UMA Cares, Disability Services, Faculty Training and Support, Summits as scheduled, and Commencement.
  • Partners with General Education Chair to support associate degree program vision and strategy as it pertains to general education and elective courses.
  • Reviews and analyzes key performance indicators to assess course health, curriculum viability, instructor performance, and student achievement of the program.
  • Progress monitors student performance, engagement, persistence, and growth to facilitate problem-solving and data-driven solutions to increase program health, curriculum viability, instructor performance, and student achievement.
  • Leads cross content collaboration, team infrastructure, and effective problem-solving to develop action plans focused on the quality of the programs curriculum and instruction as well as multi-tiered supports/interventions.
  • Identifies and advocates for support needed to ensure student progress that facilitates, fosters, and promotes prevention and early intervention practices supported by collaborative efforts between instructors, academic specialists (online campus) and advisors for students in core program courses.
  • Assumes leadership role in faculty meetings, Education department leadership meetings, taskforce meetings, advisory boards and other working groups as assigned.
  • Models online and classroom-based educational best practices, effective teaching/coaching techniques and collegial, and positive environment that promotes excellence in teaching and service.
  • Provides leadership for an effective curriculum development and refinement process which incorporates feedback from a range of stakeholders including program leadership, faculty, advisory boards, taskforce members, subject matter experts, curriculum team leadership, and cross department partners.
  • Monitors certification exam results, participation, preparation and applications.
  • Assumes overall accountability for the development, implementation, and evaluation of the training program. Typical elements of an evaluation plan may include the following: student evaluations, first-time pass rates on the written and manual skills certification exams, student attrition rates, resolution of past student complaints and grievances, and?review and revision of program policies.   • Performs other duties or special projects as assigned/required.

  • Ensure that UMA values are being demonstrated and policies are being followed.

Support Institutional Initiatives

  • Keep current on institutional goals, objectives, and progress
  • Engage in institutional sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate
  • Lead with courage in support of change initiatives that impact organization
  • Manages and assists in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA

Compliance:

  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.

Work Experience, Skills & Abilities:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate degree in Nursing and a clear, active Florida license to practice professional nursing. (RN, ARNP, BSN)
  • At least five (5) years of occupational experience with at least 2 years of clinical supervising nursing assistants in nursing home services
  • Have completed a course in teaching adults, or have at least 1 year of experience in teaching adults, or undergraduate degree with an equivalent of 15 semester credit hours in the subject field.
  • Academic preparation in the specific courses taught is required.
  • Proficient in verbal and written English
  • Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • An associate degree in nursing and/or Bachelors degree in Education or Nursing
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems
  • Experience with Student Information Systems
  • Experience with synchronous instructional tools
  • Has knowledge of and experience with technological tools and software
  • Success in applying adult learning principles and practices to online teaching
  • Inspires students to meet their career goals using career connections and strategies

Working Environment:

  • Instructional Environment Must be able to work in an office, classroom, and laboratory settings, and to visit employer and healthcare facility sites as needed
  • Up to 20% of travel required - Valid Drivers License requiredincluding travel required to apprentices field and internship experiences
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to perform (for teaching purposes) required medical skills and techniques, including without limitation, bandaging, splinting and establishing an IV, performing endotracheal intubation and other advanced airway techniques, manual defibrillation, pleural decompression.
  • Requires extended periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
  • Requires ability to travel (between UMA SEC locations)
  • Requires occasional bending, stooping, and squatting
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.
