A great UHY client is seeking an Accountant with Payroll and Benefits Administration experience to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree, accounting experience, payroll processing experience, and benefits administration with a proven ability to interpret.

The Accountant with Payroll and Benefits Administrator role is a hybrid position with 3 days each week being onsite. This is a contract to hire position.

Payroll and Benefits Administrator Essential Functions

  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing for all employees.
  • Import approved timesheet data, perform necessary checks and reconciliations, prepare and transmit bi-weekly payroll to designated vendor.
  • Prepare and post payroll journal entries on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Work independently to meet strict compliance deadlines to effectively deliver timely and accurate payrolls.
  • Effectively manage and integrate a high volume of data from multiple sources.
  • Assist in preparation for year-end audit; funding source monitoring visits; month- and year-end closings.
  • Implement and administer daily benefits processing.
  • Process enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, etc.
  • Serve as primary contact for employees, plan vendors and third-party administrators.
  • Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.
  • Administer 401(k) plan including enrollment, annual compliance testing, annual audits, government filings, hardship withdrawals and QDRO requests.
  • Reconciles all benefit billing and processes payments to AP for timely payments.
  • Complete data entry, maintenance and full employee benefits reconciliation reports.
  • Coordinate health, life and disability insurance enrollments and communicate with service providers concerning routine administration of benefits.
  • Handle and resolve payroll and benefit inquiries and resolve discrepancies as required.
  • Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to work with others.

Payroll and Benefits Administrator Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree OR a minimum of four years of experience in a related field OR a combination of education and experience that is similarly equivalent.
  • Payroll processing experience.
  • Four years of experience in employee benefits management and administration.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply complex payroll tax principles and wage and hour laws.
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and Gmail preferred.
  • Self-directed, organized and able to meet strict deadlines
  • In-depth knowledge of processing multi-jurisdictional taxes, benefit accruals, and garnishments.
  • CPP (Certified payroll Professional) certification a plus.
  • Experience with automated data processing software products.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality and dependability.

Payroll and Benefits Administrator Minimum Competencies

  • Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs for this position.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and educational barriers.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).
