Responsibilities

Join our South Texas Health System Clinics (formerly Valley Care Clinics) team! Providers with South Texas Health System (STHS) Clinics deliver high quality family medicine, health screenings and advanced specialized care to the people of the Rio Grande Valley. STHS Clinics is committed to delivering quality healthcare and service excellence. Our clinics are affiliated with South Texas Health Systems’ four acute care hospitals, behavioral health hospital, six freestanding emergency rooms and one joint venture hospital. Specially trained and highly experienced, our physician group treats a wide range of conditions using advanced technologies and minimally invasive techniques.

 PTA Position Summary:

  • Staff Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) is responsible for providing physical therapy services under the supervision of a physical therapist in accordance with the patients’ plan of care.
  • The physical therapy assistant will screen patients, educate patient and family, utilize exercises and physical therapy modalities in the treatment and rehabilitative of persons who have medical problems, health related conditions, or a developmental disability that limits their ability to move or perform functional activities.
  • Some travel may be required in the provision of services between facilities and job functions.
  • Other duties as assigned

 Treatment Implementation:

  • Implements specific, measurable and functional therapy interventions to meet/achieve the short term and long term goals written by the PT.
  • Re-evaluates goals to determine appropriateness of interventions based on patient’s rate and extent of progress or lack thereof toward stated goals.
  • Collaborates with supervising PT regarding treatment plan additions and or modifications.

Qualifications

 Required Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, Training & Travel Requirements (if applicable):

Education:

  • High School Diploma, Associates degree from an accredited program
  • Licensure & Certification – Successful completion of Licensure in the state of Texas as Physical Therapist Assistant Certification must be in accordance with the curriculum of the AHA, for Healthcare Provider’s Program, also hold a current BLS.

 Work experience:

  • Experience – Minimum of 3 years work experience as a PTA
  • Essential Skills – Knowledge of healthcare field, Knowledge of specific assisting tasks related to particular medical specialty. Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families. Skills in performing task appropriately.
  • Essential Physical Requirements – Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with walking, range of motion etc.
