Role is virtual but travel to the Valley Forge headquarters at least once per quarter is required. Incumbent must be able to work EST hours.
JOB SUMMARY:
Working in conjunction and in collaboration with Senior Director of Technical Accounting and External Reporting, this role leads planning, coordinating, researching and summarizing of highly complex and specialized technical accounting research and provide accounting support to UGI business units. Act as a key Subject Matter Expert (“SME”) on all aspects surrounding complex and specialized accounting areas with a principal focus on consolidation and variable interest entities (“VIEs”), equity method investments, business combinations, derivative accounting in connection with the Company’s various new initiatives, particularly on the Company’s renewable and other projects, working in close collaboration primarily with the UGI Energy Services and UGI International business units. Position requires maintaining consistently high level of practical knowledge in U.S. GAAP complex accounting areas including impact of such GAAP on UGI and subsidiaries as well as effective communication to document conclusions in a clear and concise manner. This position also plays an integral role in developing and maintaining UGI’s corporate-wide accounting policies on specific complex accounting topics. The Senior Manager – Technical Accounting also supports the accounting and related reporting and disclosure in connection with the Company’s external reporting, including SEC periodic reports. Significant interface with external auditors to manage the audits and reviews of periodic SEC periodic reports and other special projects and to provide support for financial statement assertions and to support the Corporate Financial Reporting Internal Control environment audit both internally and with external auditors.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Business Unit Accounting Transaction Support
Work directly with domestic and international accountants to provide technical accounting support for unusual or complex transactions with a principal focus on consolidation, equity method investments, derivatives & hedging, primarily for UGI Energy Services and UGI International business units. Lead technical accounting research on the Company’s new initiatives such as renewable projects and identify accounting and financial reporting issues in advance. Review contracts to identify accounting and financial reporting matters in merger and acquisition activities. Act as a key liaison with the external auditors on such complex accounting topics.
Support External Reporting Team and Audit Process
Provide assistance during the reporting periods, to the external reporting team with respect to review of the financial statements and preparation/review of the working papers supporting the Company’s quarterly and annual financial statements provided to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) or other external stakeholders.
Corporate Accounting Policies Development
Assist in developing, monitoring and updating UGI’s Corporate-wide accounting policies as it relates to complex and specialized accounting areas and disseminate them to appropriate stakeholders.
